American bloggers have their Trader Joes but here in Canada we have Bulk Barn!! I stopped in the other day to get a few staples and I thought I would show you what I picked up.
If you are not familiar with Bulk Barn, you can visit their website here. It has aisles of big bins of stuff in bulk where you can portion out what you need. They have anything and everything you could think of for baking, snacking, candy, spices, supplements, it's really a "see it to believe it" type situation. It is equally popular with the high school kids and the health food nuts.
I got some orecchiette pasta and orzo pasta for some recipes I want to make, some quinoa, and some fun coloured pasta to throw in Q's lunch.
I got birthday candles, four kinds of sprinkles (including some eyeballs) for Q's birthday cupcakes and Halloween. And I got some chocolate chips which are so expensive right now. I thought I might get a bit of a break on the price at Bulk Barn, but apparently not.
I also picked up some spices to refill our spice jars. This time I needed curry, chili powder, paprika, oregano, onion flakes, onion powder, garlic powder, coriander, and cumin.
And a few fun things to snack on - little cookies, pistachios, and pecans. Those two items were very dear as well.
For fun I am including my receipt if this thing interests you. As you can see the chocolate chips, pecans, and pistachios are not cheap!! However, what I do appreciate is that I can get whatever quantity I need. This is in Canadian dollars obviously. HST, our valued added tax of 13%, is not on the food but just on the candles and parchment paper.
This is the home for the bulk barn items - seeds, nuts, etc.
And the spice drawer.
Bulk Barn for the win :)
Ok...I'm jealous of Bulk Barn! So cool!
