Friday Favourites

On Monday I shared some of my favourite things about the Winter Olympics so far.  Here are a few more:

Eric Radford (and Meagan Duhamel).  Eric is the first openly gay athlete to win a skating medal.  This is a big deal.  I know I can get complacent about the LGBT community and think "of course they can do whatever they want now, we've come so far", and yes, we have come a long way, but it is a big deal that other LGBT kids (and adults) can see Eric up there getting his medal, being himself.  We need role models of all sorts and he really fought to be where he is now.  Well done Eric!
(Eric and Adam Rippon, the gay US skater who got into with Mike Pence on Twitter)

Canada House is also doubling as Pride House (because Olympic organizers couldn't get enough funds together for a separate location).  All LGBT athletes are welcome there.  When you consider that being gay and promoting the "gay agenda" is illegal in Russia, where the last Winter Olympics were held, then it is pretty awesome that we can create this safe space at Canada House.

The amount of time we spend talking about Tessa and Scott.  Every time we see them compete or do anything, we spend an inordinate amount of time talking about how they aren't a couple.  Everyone has their own theory about what is "really" going on with them.  I mean, they have chemistry, the seem to be actually friends, they should just get married, it would make everyone so happy.

Mr. T loves curling.  He started tweeting about the mixed doubles this week and even gave a shout out to our Canadians.
