Happy Monday! Thank you for joining us today where we Share our Lives with you. My co-hosts are: Adrienne, Dara, Jen, and Joanne. We are here on the second Monday of each month. If you have a blog and posted on this topic, please link up with us below.
Today we are sharing the unique things about where we live.
I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is the largest city in Canada and there are a number of amazing things, but the first thing that comes to mind is our diversity. I know that seems cliche, and it is something we like to talk about, but it is true! Toronto has people from every country in the world, although I can’t actually cite proof of that but I think it’s true. There are certain parts of the city where there is a greater population of one background or another (our area for example has a lot of Ukrainians) but people don’t really stay in one place, they move and work and live all over the city. It is common to hear several different languages in one day. You can get legit food from around the world somewhere in the city. I have had Portuguese tarts in Toronto and in Portugal, Jamaican patties in Jamaica and down the street from my house, and I can get handmade pierogi anytime I want. We are so fortunate and we sort of take it for granted. When pro sports players come here to play they are often surprised at how great the city is, and how welcoming it is to any background. I’ve mostly heard NBA players say this, but it is true for all sports.
A few other unique things about Toronto:
- The CN Tower is our landmark building
- We are on the shores of Lake Ontario
- All of our professional sports teams play downtown
- The PATH is an extensive underground complex where you can get from south of Union Station to the Eaton Centre and most points in between. This is a great feature in the winter.
- If you're looking for the washrooms in a restaurant, chances are they are downstairs in the dingiest basement you can imagine.
- We are the centre of the universe actually (haha, joking, it is what we think but we do know that’s not true!)
