Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is coming up this weekend on Saturday.  I am excited about that because it means we will get to go to a ceremony together as a family.  We got to go last year when we were in Halifax because we were taking a holiday.

E is learning about Remembrance Day in school, and although they would have learned about it before, he is really getting it and understanding it this year.  He's learning "In Flanders Fields" in English and the children's choir at church is singing it in French.  It's not an easy song to sing, the tune is not a familiar one and the words are hard, but we're practicing it.  I said something about Papa Doug being in the war and he was like, "wait wait, he was in the war and he survived?!" and I said "yes", and he said "Did he get any medals?". And I said, "as a matter of fact, he did", so I need to get those out and show him because I know he would actually appreciate them this year.

I've written about Remembrance Day before and my feelings are pretty much the same.  I really love seeing people of all walks of life wearing the poppy around the city and although I know not everyone will be attending a ceremony or watching the one on TV, hopefully they will take a moment or two to remember.
