Weekend Recap

July is just flying by, isn't it!?

On Friday afternoon, I kicked off my weekend with the fabulous Lizzo ride on Spotify.  Lizzo herself was there riding along with us, so fun!!

I picked up Q from camp and when we stopped to pick up a few things, he asked for some watermelon so I obliged.

We had some fresh corn for supper and then got to bed fairly early.

On Saturday we went to pick up E from camp.  We were excited to see him and hear all of his stories.

We didn't want to drive up and back in the same day so we booked a hotel in Midland and spent the day in the area.  First we went go-karting and played mini-golf.

Then we went to Balm Beach for the rest of the day.  Aside from it being nearly impossible to find a place to park when we got there, it was a great spot.  The water was warm and the kids had lots of fun in the sand.  We got our take out lunch and ice cream cones to eat on the beach.

It's always hard to leave the beach, but we eventually dragged ourselves away because we had dinner reservations in Midland at The Boathouse Eatery.  It was a busy spot so it was great we made reservations!

Then we swam at the hotel when we got back and watched a movie on TV before going to sleep before 10:00.

We had breakfast at the hotel and then drove home.  We got the car unpacked, did the laundry, washed the car, did some yard work, and watched the golf.

The boys did a lemonade stand with the neighbours again.

After supper we gathered to watch The Amazing Race Canada.  Nice to have E home with us!

Friday Favourites

I went to Simons on the weekend and got the boys some new sheets and now I wished I got some for us.  They are good quality and so cute.  Q's set is white with little smiley faces and E's are just a dark blue pattern.  I also got a new little rug for Q's room, it's much softer than the one he had, and then I moved his old one down to be in front of the washer and dryer.  Simons has the cutest things.

I'm all for compostable cutlery but I'd prefer if they don't compost while I'm using them. I got this fork with my Kupfert and Kim order on Monday and it just kept crumbling.

Taking Q to camp on Wednesday.  He was mad at me because he wanted to wait at a certain place for the subway but when it showed up as we were going down the stairs we just ran right on, and it wasn't what he wanted to do. Also he looks so old in this photo!!

Supper out on Wednesday night.  It rained before we got our food but we were under an umbrella so it was all fine.

I golfed on Thursday night, we started after work but still got 18 holes in.

We also saw this beaver.

We pick up E from camp on Saturday and we are all excited to see him and hear his stories about what he did.

Let's Look - How I Stay Healthy

Today for Let's Look we are talking about how we stay healthy.  This presumes that one is healthy to start with, but I suppose I would consider myself a fairly healthy person and I know I am very lucky for that.

Exercise is part of my regular routine, even on holidays.  I try to do Peloton rides and strength workouts several times a week, run every so often, bike to work once a week in summer, and ski in the winter.  I walk or bike to do errands when I have the time. It is rare that I don't close my activity rings on my Apple Watch.

I drink water throughout the day, but I don't measure it out, it's just a habit now.

We eat fairly well - we don't eat out or order too much and we don't eat a lot of prepackaged food. Most of our meals are made from scratch, lean protein, and lots of vegetables.  Not all of our meals are perfectly balanced, but I think we do okay.

I take Iron, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D on a daily basis.

I always wear sunscreen and try not to spend time out in the direct sunlight too much.

When I feel myself getting a cold I will make myself a hot toddy, drink some cough medicine, and try to get to bed early.  I also use the Saje Immune stick in the wintertime which I think of as my "magic potion" to ward off colds.

I go to the doctor when I feel I need to get things checked out - I recently had a mammogram, colonoscopy, and skin check.  I can be a bit of a hypochondriac but I don't overdo it on the doctor visits or anything, just get the things checked that I really need to do.

I get all of the vaccines offered to me - flu shots every year, and I've got my three COVID doses, and will get the fourth one when available.  We did get COVID in March but it was pretty mild.

I am not someone with a lot of anxiety so it's very easy for me to not let stuff bother me for too long. I have my own methods for working through stressful times and just get on with it.

There are some areas where I can improve - I need to do better at taking my iron pills as well as seeking our more sources of iron, I could eat smaller portions of food, and could drink less alcohol.  But for those last two, food and drink are things that give me joy which is another part of being healthy!

Weekend Recap

For Q's lunch on Friday I slipped in a piece of strawberry pie.  I said, "Who else gets strawberry pie in their lunch?!" and Q says "No one!!" It was a little messed up by the time he ate it, but he said it was good.

After camp and work we went to one of Q's friend's houses for pizza, and the kids got to play on the bouncy castle.

Playing hard!

We slept in slightly on Saturday morning and then watched the F1 sprint race.  Then Dave went golfing and Q and I went for a paddle board on the Humber River.  It was a beautiful day, not too hot and only a little breezy.   We were doing well and then decided to go into the marsh part.  We hit a sunken log and we fell in the water!! It wasn't so bad, Q was a little shocked, but he wasn't really scared and got right back up on the board.

Back on dry land and deflating the board.

Since we had fallen in, we went right home to shower and wash our clothes.  Then we went to the grocery store and picked up stuff to make our own ice cream sandwiches.

After some quiet time (screen time), we got dressed up and met Dave at the club for supper on the patio.

Q did some putting when I went to get the car.

On Sunday we watched the race in the morning.  It was such a good race and good to see Haas with some points!!

Then I went out to Mississauga to meet up with Sarita!! We have never met in person but we have been catching up with each other on our blogs for years.  And then in a complete blogger fail, we both forgot to get a photo of us!! But it did happen, and I even met her daughters :)  We conveniently met at the mall so I did a bit of shopping after lunch and got some new sheets for the boys' beds at Simons.

Meanwhile Dave and Q went to High Park to swim and play at the playground.

I also picked up a badminton set while I was out so we played that when I got home.   We also needed a little lie down.

Supper outside!

We missed E but we know he's having fun at camp!
