Weekend Recap

We had visitors this weekend, in town to watch Canada play in the World Cup but I didn’t get any photos of us!! We were happy to see them and provide accommodations for their visit.

On Friday, Q had an exhibition game for his rep team out in Oakville. It was a great night to watch baseball.

On Saturday Dave headed out to golf first thing, the rest of us slept in for a bit. I made pancakes and mid-morning Q and I headed up the street to check out the sports themed street fest going on.  Q won a free ice cream for kicking the soccer ball at the cups.

Batman and the Batmobile were there. 

Then we enjoyed our ice cream. It was fabulous weather. (E didn’t come with us since he was working on his end of year school projects.)

Then Q had another baseball game that night, but closer to home at High Park. 

This was Dave’s project all day Saturday and part of Sunday morning, tiling our new BBQ and pizza oven set up. He worked hard with E’s help.

It rained on Sunday so Q’s morning house league baseball practice was cancelled and then his afternoon rep practice was moved inside to a batting cage. 

The boys also had their music recital. They both did really well. 

We ended our day at the new restaurant by our house. It has been a restaurant for awhile but has new owners, a fresh renovation, and great new menu.

Weekend Recap

We kicked off our weekend with a little visit with Dave's cousin Adam who was in town for work. We were able to meet him before lunch before he was heading back to the airport. And in true fashion, I neglected to take a photo!! Great to see him though.

Q had his first baseball practice on Friday night.  It was nice to meet the coach and the rest of the team. Q has one buddy from his rep team last year, and one friend from school.

Dave was up early the next day to go to Home Depot. We are getting a new BBQ and he is building a space for it. The boys were happy to help out with this project.

Meanwhile I did a bunch of things in the house - vacuumed and dusted behind dressers, put the screens back on the windows, cleaned my hairbrush, and put away the Easter decorations. 

The boys made cookies in the afternoon.

I made stew for dinner, which was great for the cold rainy weather that came along. Dave did manage to finish the portion of the project he wanted to do that day, working in between rainfall. 

I went to church on Sunday morning and then E and I went shopping for a few things. Dave and Q had baseball practice and came home cold and tired. Q set up on the couch for the rest of the day. 

We ordered burgers for dinner instead of going out, which was our plan. I cleaned the boys' shoes, folded my clothes, and got to bed at a good time.

It was nice not having too many plans in the calendar so I could putter around at home. This time between skiing and baseball/golf is always a good break.

New Kids' Bathroom

 Today I wanted to show you the kids' new bathroom.  

We used to have just one bathroom upstairs and we all shared it.  We never loved the tile, and it also didn't have any drawers so we needed to use baskets to store our things.  

When we reconfigured the upstairs to add Q's new bedroom, we sectioned it into a smaller room, moved the window and sink.

The shower actually stayed the same size, and the toilet stayed in the same spot.  The previous owners had a bidet so the plumbing was already there for where we put the vanity. 

This is the new hallway, it used to lead into the bathroom, but now the hall continues on, up into Q's room, and the bathroom door is on the left.

We still need to get the window shade installed. 

The discerning eye may spot an X-wing in the mat.

I want to get some wallpaper for this wall above the tile, but that is a future project.

It's subtle, but the grout has a green tint matching the green tile on the floor.

It's great to have two washrooms upstairs, and drawers for the boys to keep their toothbrushes.  They need a few lessons on keeping it clean, but they aren't too bad!!

New Entryway

Today I'm showing you our new entryway.

We opened up the wall here as it used to only have the width of a regular doorway. 

We had the closet custom built.  We wanted to keep lots of storage but didn't want it to be closed off too much.

We had to contend with the existing window and the plumbing down the side on the left.

Above are cabinets where we can keep seasonal items and various bags.

Everyone gets their own drawer to keep the things they are using in the current season (hats and mitts in winter, flip flops and ball caps in summer). The space under each drawer is tall enough to slide a few pairs of shoes underneath.

Dave's dad made us this bench for Christmas going by the designs Dave had provided.  It weighs a ton, but it looks great in the space.

The stairs are the original ones but we had them refinished so they look much tidier.  Interesting story, after they had done this work, the shower installers came and could not get one of the panes of glass up the stairs (which is actually kind of common in old Toronto homes), so they had to cut off the top of the banister post and replace it afterwards (and fix up the scrapes on the wall and stairs left by the various attempts to fit the glass through), but you can't tell now. 

Now here it is with all of the coats and bags hung up.  The boys have hooks under the window for their backpackss
