Summer Recap

Ah, time to look back on our summer - full of fun!

We kicked off the summer with a t-ball tournament in Stoney Creek.

(Last time those pants were white!)

Canada Day waffles.

The first of many meals on the golf club patio.  We met Dave on Canada Day for lunch.

E and I took in a Blue Jays game with tickets in the lower bowl behind home plate.

We got a new car!

We dropped Q off at camp and E went to a friend's cottage for a week.

Dave and I went to see Dave Matthews Band at Budweiser Stage.

E and I picked up Q from camp and enjoyed some lunch in Bala on our way home.

We went to the second t-ball tournament in Mississauga.

The kids and I went to PEI and my mom came over to hang out with us for the week. We stayed at my friend Cindy's cottage.

Third t-ball tournament, this time in Ancaster for the August long weekend.

We fit in some go-karts too!

I golfed 18 holes with E.

The four of us got out for 9 holes.

E golfed with his buddies at Scarlett Woods.

We golfed with my dad.

Q went to golf camp.

The last tournament of the summer was in Dundas.  Q got player of the game.

I dropped E off at camp for the last week of summer.

Our long weekend featured a Blue Jays game and a bike ride to the lake.

This year was the first year we did not go camping. We love camping but with Q on the Rep T-ball team with several tournament weekends, camping slipped down in priority.  Another difference this year is that Q only played one sport, t-ball, and E didn’t play any organized sports, but he did get out golfing. I joined the golf club as a “learn to golf” member and got out several times and met lots of ladies.  I was working from home all summer, and that meant no bike rides to the office, but I did enjoy working in the backyard before it got too hot. We had a very hot summer with very little rain, my favourite type of weather. I tended to prioritize sleep and golf this summer instead of working out on a regular basis. However I did get out for a run once a week either on a Friday or Saturday morning, even when I was on holiday :) so that was a good habit to keep up.

Weekend Recap

On the Friday of the long weekend I went to pick up E and his friend from camp.  They were tired but had a great week.

When we dropped off E’s friend with his dad, we were conveniently next to a KFC so we decided to get some popcorn chicken for the ride home.

Back home.  My cat friend came through the backyard so Q came out to pet it.

Earlier in the week we had decided to get tickets for the Blue Jays game on Friday night. Shane Bieber was pitching, they were playing the Brewers, the best team in the National League, and every game counts now as we get to the of the season.

We had General Admission tickets so we got there early for when the gates opened so we could find a seat in Park Social.

Success!! (Q is playing video games)

And look who I ran into - Natasha!!

Fan Services had a few activity pages for the kids, including a score card, so we decided to score the game (a bit more complicated than my usual role as t-ball scorer).

A loss for the Blue Jays unfortunately, but still a fun night.

I got to sleep in on Saturday, while Dave was up early to golf. I was inspired by Ruth to pick up some Portuguese tarts. I went to Nova Era Bakery on Dundas, they have the best ones in my opinion.  Then we walked down to the river and enjoyed the nice day.

Dave’s parents had brought a kite for the kids, but there wasn’t much wind for it that day.

The baby snapping turtles were hatching and we got to see the volunteers who had collected them and were going to take them further downstream to release them in the marsh a little farther away from predators.

Dave came down when he got home from golf and everyone got something from the ice cream truck.

We watched the F1 Quali and the Blue Jays and then Dave made some basil gin smashes.

Dave’s mom’s birthday was coming up so we celebrated with this cake.

On Sunday I got up for a run and then headed to the grocery store.

Since Dave was golfing, we decided to meet him for lunch after his round.  Q wanted to take photos of this butterfly.

E had his friends over on Sunday night.  They are heading off to high school this year and mostly in different schools.  The aftermath of dinner.

They wanted to play poker.

A few of them spent the night. When I finally kicked them out ;) , and Dave got back from golf, the rest of finally got out of the house for a bike ride.  We went down to the Lake, it was so busy because so many people were out to watch the air show, and it’s the last day of summer holidays, and the weather was so beautiful.  We did well navigating the crowds.

We grabbed a quick treat at the 7/11 and then biked home.  We always have a big hill to go up to get home, but we did okay.  Then we got the kids’ stuff ready for school, watched some Amazing Race, and enjoyed our usual “back to school” meal (recipe here).
