We started our Wednesday morning in Paris with a run. I never want to go for a run on holiday, but Dave encourages us to do it, and I never regret it. We ran down to the Seine crossed a couple of bridges and came back. I tripped over a loose tile on the way back and tumbled to the ground, but no significant injuries and we carried on.
We cut up through Jardin Des Plantes on the way home.
It was starting to rain a bit as we headed out for the day. We took the Metro to Montmartre and decided to duck into a cafe for a second breakfast and wait for the rain to let up. We found Inform Cafe and it hit the spot.
Then we walked up to see Sacre Coeur.
We wandered through the streets, there were a lot of people around.
We walked by Le Consulat before it opened, but we came back to eat later.
Cool wall.
So many hills in this area, can be challenging walking but we are fit and didn't mind.
Le Moulin de la Galette, another famous restaurant.
It was starting to rain again so we headed back up to Le Consulat for a quick bite to eat. We shared a croque monsieur and some fries. This was an amazing place for people watching, including this lady on a motorized scooter that headed down the hill on the wet cobblestones, we wondered if she would make it!
We spent awhile watching these trucks. On our way by the first time, a moving truck was stuck on the hill and couldn't get traction and space to get out. After we ate, we passed back by the truck and saw a second truck had come to help. They tried a variety of things, but were still stuck when we decided to move along.
Fascinating stuff.
We stopped by the Le mur des je t'aime.
And a quick stop by Moulin Rouge before finding the Metro.
We ended up back in Saint Germain so we could find this Star Wars Flash Invader.
And we walked home on the Right Bank. Stop at Place de Chatelet.
Cool little climbing area by the river.
We were in the neighbourhood so we took the opportunity to get an ice cream from Berthillion on the Ile Saint-Louis.
We took the same route that Dave and I ran along that morning, and through Jardin Des Plantes..
Since we had done so much walking that day we opted for a restaurant right by our apartment. The food was decent, but only okay. My Negroni was tasty though!
On Thursday morning we took the Metro to the Louvre area, and I took everyone on this slight detour to find this site from Emily in Paris (her office).
There were so many people queuing for the Louvre, but we weren't going inside so we worked our way through and into the courtyard.
Then we made our way down towards the Jardin des Tuileries and Champs-Elysees
They had a spot for watching the French Open at the Place de la Concorde.
At the start of Champs-Elysees we saw a big police presence and we wondered what they were doing. They had some vans and were moving some strange yellow boxes around. We had all kinds of guesses of what they were doing. Then I turned back and realized the boxes had their hot lunch inside and it was being distributed to everyone.
The Foot Locker that had been looted during the Paris Saint Germain celebrations/rioting.
Love this Louis Vuitton building.
From here we were going over to the Eiffel Tower. I'll pick up the recap from there next time.
Sounds like a beautiful place for a run—minus the fall! Glad you’re okay. The LV building really does look amazing. Paris in the rain and people-watching with a croque monsieur. Sounds pretty fantastic to me!
