It's time to look back at the school year. Q completed Grade 3 this year. He had a split class with Grade 2s (including our neighbour) and a very lovely teacher. He is in French Immersion which means all day is in French. I believe starting next year there will be some more classes in English.
Academically, Q worked hard on his reading and writing. He is still below grade level for reading, but he's getting there. He had a tutor for most of the year and that was good for him to get devoted time to practice his French. Despite this, he loves going to school and participating in class and speaking French. He worked hard to stay organized and not get distracted by his classmates. When he would have homework or test corrections to work on, he would get through it, even if it took awhile. He likes to do well, he just needs to make a leap in his reading, which I'm sure will come in time.
He walked or biked to school with E most days, and on a couple of occasions had to head out by himself. But he was comfortable with that and would run into some friends on the way to walk with. Next year E will be in a different school so Q will be on his own every day. He continued to go to the YMCA after school, but maybe next year he will just come home, we will see.
There was a "Comic Club" at school that he enjoyed. They would draw comics or bring some to read. Q is just as into the arts and crafts and board games as he is sports. He likes to participate in whatever activity is going on and often I am coaxing him to leave the Y when it's time to go home.
Here's to Grade 3!
