Weekend Recap

We started our weekend by welcoming Dave's parents and aunt, here to stay for a couple of days.  I made lemon chicken and served that with rice, Greek salad, pitas, hummus, and tzatziki.  It was a good meal for a group.  We watched the new Brad Pitt and George Clooney movie, Wolfs, that night.

We had no plans for Saturday so after sleeping in for a little bit, we went for a walk up the street to do a few errands. I started out with a sweatshirt but realized quickly I did not need.

Then we went for a walk to see the salmon jumping by the Humber River.

I did a workout and then poured myself a late season Aperol Spritz while we settled in to watch the Toronto FC v. Miami soccer game.  Messi was in town which was a pretty big deal.

Q put on his Messi jersey (and then watched about five minutes of the game, eyeroll!)

We played some cards before dinner, which was fish cakes, made by Dave's mom.

We all went to church on Sunday (or almost all of us, Dave had an early tee time).  While I made supper, I joined in on a family Monopoly game.

Here is the lovely lasagna I made, it was a Jamie Oliver recipe and it turned out really well.  I also made garlic bread and caesar salad.  One of my favourite meals, particularly for a group.

After that we started in on the Halloween movies, first up The Haunted Mansion.  We went on the ride at Disney last year.  We recognized a familiar face in the movie...

Weekend Recap

We had a great late summer weekend - September has the best weather.   Keeping with the photos I took last week of my own city, I thought I would snap a few from my office.  I don't usually go into the office on Fridays, but I had a few things to take care of in person. Unfortunately the windows give off some glare but you get the idea.

The corner of Front and Bay.

Two of my colleagues and I are doing a monthly wine exchange. I brought them each a bottle of Whispering Angel (there is still enough summer left to enjoy a rose), and in return I got a Chablis and a California Cab Sauv.

Dave had an afternoon tee time and caught up with his friend the coyote at the golf club.

The Ukrainian Festival was going on up on Bloor West.  We like going up on Friday night to get some pierogi and check out the festivities.

Tornado Potato

Q tried out the climbing wall. He got to the top of this one no problem.

The second climb was a bit more challenging and he got up about halfway.

Q played a dart game and won a little stuffy, and Dave tried the basketball game.

E was hanging out with his friends but we caught up with him a couple of times.

E and Q both had games at 11:00 so we needed to divide and conquer.  I took Krispy Kreme doughnuts to E's team.  (and Q's team got Timbits).

After being out all morning and into the afternoon, we permitted a few video games afterwards.

E had a baseball tryout later that afternoon and we all went to support him.  Then we had to hustle home so E could get dressed up to join his friends for a birthday party. They were going to The Keg and they all wore a suit.  Spiffy!

Because Q's team had won their game the day before, they had another game to play on Sunday morning. And E had another baseball tryout at the same time. I decided not to go to church so that meant we didn't need to be anywhere until 10:30. We had a nice morning to watch the F1 race and have bacon and eggs for breakfast.

Q's team lost their game so that meant their season was over, but it was a nailbiter and they kept it close the whole game.  Way to go Yankees!

After the game we got some food from the concession stand and watched the next tball game. Then we went over to visit some friends that live one street over and had a drink with them in their backyard.
It was a great weekend!

Friday Favourites

Q had his last night of soccer this week and Dave and I were both able to go.

I took E to two baseball tryouts this week.   One night was under the lights which is always fun.

The boys are participating in cross country at school and they had a training session on Wednesday.  They both ran hard.

Q's t-ball team won their playoff game on Thursday so they get to play again.  It was a nail biter!

As we are getting ready for our trip to New York, I got to thinking that when I'm visiting a different city I tend to look around more and enjoy the different perspectives.  So then I decided to look around my own city and enjoy the sites.

Speaking of planning our trip, it almost seems like planning for Disney - coordinating what we do on each day, hitting all of the "must dos", making dining reservations, figuring out a "system" of some sort (this time it's the subway, not Genie Plus). And remembering there will be a lot of walking!

Craig's Cookies just opened a location in Union Station so I picked up a few cookies this week and then I noticed that they are opening another location in my neighbourhood!  These cookies are decadent!

Thanks for reading. Have a great weekend!

Weekend Recap

Our summer weekends are running out but we made sure get the most out of this one.  We hosted a few people for drinks and dinner on Friday night.

We did get to enjoy the outside for the first part of the evening. As we were going back out with our dinner plates, it started raining, so we ate inside instead.

We match!

Our friends that were staying with us were leaving on Saturday morning. So nice to see them!

Dave was golfing in the morning but when he returned we headed downtown for a little adventure.  I say this all the time, people come to Toronto as tourists and we get to live here.  We don't always get to enjoy all parts of our city, so I thought we should walk along the waterfront. I bike on this route all the time but never get to stop and explore.  We took the subway to Union and then headed west on the streetcar and exited at the bottom of Spadina.

There is a statue of Terry Fox.

And these art installations line up to form a silhouette of Terry running, it was so neat!

Q got his finger jammed so he's wincing here, but he was fine shortly thereafter.

The Music Garden is so pretty! I didn't really know it was down there.

We stopped in at Amsterdam Brewhouse for a mid-afternoon meal.  Amsterdam is always reliable; I often recommend it to people.

This monarch was hanging out.

Then we continued on our walk.

The Love Park is situated where the York Gardiner ramp used to be. It's a nice space now.

We got home before the rain, which is good because it really came down!! We got so much rain the rivers and highways flooded again, and the golf course was closed the next day and is still recovering days later.

I tried to photograph the rain but I'm sure you really can't see how much water was out there.

We got Q to bed early and the rest of watched The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. It was really good!

Q had a t-ball game on Sunday morning, it was a hot one!! E and I found some shade (and some french fries!).

Post-game meeting.

We seized the opportunity to do a patio lunch on our way home. An Aperol Spritz on a hot day will never get old to me!

The rest of the afternoon called for Blue Jays, groceries, naps, and some crib.  The kids went to bed at a good time and Dave and I watched the new Matt Damon/Casey Affleck movie on Apple TV.  It was cute!
