New Things

Aritzia, Athleta, and Amazon - oh my!  I did a bit of shopping for myself last week and so far I am happy with my purchases. I am a blogger but I am not an influencer and honestly I get a little sick of the people who are buying buying buying (and then probably returning returning returning). I asked one of these influencers one time how they have the opportunity to wear all of these clothes they are showing us in their daily lives and she said she is "obligated" to buy more than a normal person because she is an influencer and needs to make sure she has content for her followers. What a burden that must be! To consume more so others may consume as well, it's a bit disgusting isn't it?

Don't get me wrong, I am a consumer as well and I like to buy nice things, but I do feel like there is a limit to that. I just went through my clothes as I switched over from winter to summer. I got rid of a bunch of things that were well loved, but now worn, outdated or do not fit. It was time to refresh some of my wardrobe so I placed some orders.

Revive Poplin Dress - I have this already in a light green and it fits well so I thought it was good to get in black as well.

Archive Linen Shirt - I ordered this first in a large, but it was huge, so I returned it and got a small, so it's a more suitable size.

Breezy Tank - I got this in pink and black and I think I'll be wearing these a lot. They are comfortable and light.

Golf Skort - self explantory.

Golf Skort - This is from Amazon, and I rarely order clothes from there, but I thought I'd take a chance. It's a bit longer than I thought it would be but I like it.

And I'll spare you the photos, I also got some new bras. I have seen ads for these two brands on my Instagram for awhile so I took a chance.

I just measured myself and used their size guides. They fit well and I am happy with them, although I think I prefer the Shapermint ones better.

Have you bought anything lately?

Paris Fashion

When I prepared to go to Paris, I read a few things I found on Pinterest like "How to dress in Paris", "How not to look like a tourist in Paris", and "Things Parisians do not wear".   You have to take those posts with a grain of salt.  I mean, I am a tourist and I will be walking around all day, and Parisians are not necessarily doing that.  Plus they aren't super into air conditioning there, so they may be used to being hot, but I am not, and there have to be adjustments to what the locals wear.  That being said, I did want to look nice and while I was there, I did find that many tourists were trying to look their best.

Comfortable shoes - For me, I need to wear sneakers if I am walking around all day, I need the support and I don't like my feet to get dirty from the streets.  I wore brand new white Nike sneakers.  I have a few pairs of these.  Many people were wearing clean, good condition sneakers. Some of those Pinterest posts say "don't wear flip flops".  I would agree but that's less about fashion and more about being practical; flip flops will not provide the best comfort and support you need to walk around all day.  I also brought Birkenstocks to wear if we were going somewhere close for dinner.

Crossbody Bag - All of us girls had a crossbody bag from Poppy and Peonies (all different colours so we weren't too matchy matchy, mine is cognac). This bag was a good size to carry our wallets, phones, sunglasses, etc. and not too big to hurt my shoulder.  I really didn't feel threatened by pickpockets, but when we were in a crowd, I felt safer with this bag as I could keep it close to me. When Dave and the boys came, we did bring a backpack since we had waters, umbrellas, and sweaters.  The Pinterest posts say "don't wear a backpack" but whatever, if it works for you, do what you want.

Striped shirt - You must have a striped shirt if you're over a certain age and going to Paris. I got mine at Athleta.

Dresses - I like a dress, it elevates your look and is usually comfortable for walking around all day, and can transition to a dinner. I got my dresses at Aritzia and Athleta. Cindy got some of her dresses at RW& Co. Something that was absolutely necessary for me to enjoy wearing a dress all day were the Original Shorts from Thigh Society

White Pants - White pants are a great way to look put together. I wore mine with t-shirts and sneakers.

Linen blouse - This was a great purchase from Aritzia. It's a perfect item to look put together and keep warmer in the evenings. I had also brought an oversized blazer that would have gone well with a few different looks, but it was too hot for a blazer most days.

Pashmina - It has recently come to my attention that the "young people" don't know about pashminas.  I don't often wear a scarf anymore, but I still think they are a good thing to bring along when travelling. I needed mine one day when it was raining, another day to respectfully cover my shoulders when we went to Notre Dame, and it was also useful as a picnic blanket at the Eiffel Tower.

Shorts and Tanks - This is another 'no-no' according to Pinterest, but guess what? I wear shorts and tank tops when it is hot out, and it was hot on a few days.  My shorts are from Athleta and kept me cool.

Kids - My kids just wore their normal clothes, but something fun we picked up for Q was a Mbappe France soccer kit.  A Messi kit is standard issue with his friends, but it was fun to get a Mbappe one too.

Weekend Recap

Some weekends we don't get up to too much, and I don't take many photos, but I still like to document them because they still have special little moments that I want to remember.

I had a slow workday on Friday so I was able to get a workout in at the end of the day.  I decided to do a 5 minute warm up and then a 20 minute ride, which led to a Personal Best!  Nice way to kick off the weekend.

That night we watched A Complete Unknown, which I mentioned in yesterday's post.  We got up early the next day to watch the recorded F1 Sprint and Quali. Dave and the boys fixed a flat tire on the car, while I tidied up the front hall closet and folded my clothes.  I also went through E's clothes and determined he needed some new things.

After lunch E and I went to the mall, while Q had a friend over to play Lego and video games.  The mall had this McLaren car made of Lego.

E got a few plain t-shirts and I got this sweater, all from Uniqlo.

I forced myself to go for a run before dinner, despite how cold it was, but it was worth it (as it always is).  When I got home I made Stanley Tucci's recipe for Pasta E Fagioli, and some garlic bread.

On Sunday morning we had another early morning for the F1 race, and then I went to church.  We take the winter off from church since we are skiing on the weekends, but it was time to return.  I did let the boys stay home on this day, but they will join me again next week.  It was nice to be back with the choir.
In the afternoon we had plans to go swimming, but then E got a message that his friends were playing football up at the school so he went there instead while Q and I went swimming.

We stopped at McDonalds on the way home to redeem some rewards for a free cheeseburger and small fries that we had won a few weeks ago.  And bonus, we saw our neighbours there.
Concluded the day with a trip to the grocery store and some TV.

Friday Favourites

I didn't get too many photos of this week, it was like our first real week back at work with all of the activities.  (My mom was here last week so we had her help with meals and stuff.).

I did start out my week strong with lunch at Shake Shack with my colleagues.  It was tasty!

Sadly one of my sweaters started peeling on the sleeves.  I noticed bit of black falling around me at my desk and then realized it was my sweater.

I was going up to Uniqlo to pick up some base layers for E and myself. And I also found a soft sweater so I exchanged my old sweater for a new one part way through the day.

Our choir had a potluck last night.  I brought some smoked salmon. It was enjoyed.

I'm not usually a huge fan of our premier, Doug Ford, but I did appreciate the hat he wore to the first ministers meeting this week.

I shared a recipe for egg bites yesterday.  I made another batch for this weekend.

We have a full weekend of skiing, starting today. Should be a fun wintry weekend.

Friday Favourites

Happy Friday!

I'm not great at taking photos of my outfits but the full length mirror in the bathroom at work helped.  This is my Aritzia skirt and turtleneck.  The long sweater is from Winners.  I felt kind of "school-marmy" in this outfit but decided to embrace it.

It was E's actual birthday on Monday so although we had previously celebrated with his gifts, birthday dinner, and party, we still had to have cupcakes to mark the actual day.

A condo is being built by our house and just recently someone put up these murals at the construction site.  They are so cute!

School photos came back this week, cuties!

Swimming lessons for Q on Wednesday.

E played at a little Open Mic night put on by his music teacher.  Most of the kids played a small song on the piano, but there were a couple of guitar players, including E.  He did quite well and said he overheard a kid say "that sounded like a real person playing!!"(I guess as opposed to a student who has just learned guitar in the last year!).  (Dave was there too but didn't get a seat!)

I can see the new CIBC building from my office window but I had never walked over to check it out.  I did that yesterday and found some delicious lunch at their fancy food court.

Then I checked out the outdoor space and saw downtown from a new perspective.

One more October weekend - will probably start some leaf raking, and may try a fun Halloween meal.

Friday Favourites

It was my birthday last weekend and I got a few lovely gifts, I also picked up a few things on my trip to Newfoundland.  My mom had sent me money for my birthday so I can say some of those things are from her.
I love a cozy sweatshirt. And I was happy I got a bright colour instead of my usual black!

I could not resist this whale mug.  Isn't it cute?!  I got it at this store.

I also cannot resist a nice soap,

I had to get my Sephora birthday gift of course so I ordered the body lotion I already had in my cart and added a tinted moisturizer that my friend told me she likes.   The minis on the left were my birthday gift.

I got lots of nice flowers too.

My mom sent these fun outdoor pillows and napkins.  I love an Aperol Spritz!

Dave did a good job picking out this tank top and these shorts.   I also got some Athleta yoga pants and Aritzia hoodie but I haven't worn them yet.

My favourite cake from Bake Sale :)

And of course my birthday drink from Starbucks.  We got this on our way to watch Q's t-ball game on Sunday but it starting pouring when we got out of the subway so E and I were taking shelter.

E and his friend played catch one night after supper and I see they borrowed my phone.

It was chilly at Q's soccer game on Monday night, I wish I'd brought a blanket!

Ontario strawberries are out! They are so pretty and tasty.

We have a t-ball tournament this weekend and of course it's Father's Day on Sunday so we will be busy.
