Happy Easter!

Celebrating our risen Christ this weekend.  All of the sadness of Good Friday will be forgotten on Easter Sunday when we can say "He is risen! He is risen indeed, hallelujah!"  Whether this is your belief too or if you're just looking for the Easter Bunny this weekend, I wish you a happy holiday time with family and friends.

I'll be back on Tuesday with a recap of our weekend.

Thursday Favourites

I'm doing a Thursday Favourites post in lieu of Friday because it's a long weekend!! I love Good Friday, not only for the actual symbolism of the day, but because everything is closed there is no choice but to stay home and spend time with family.

I posted about why I love Easter more than Christmas here and it is still the same.  The other day in the car I said I loved Easter more than Christmas for a few different reasons one of which was that I felt that the miracle of Easter is more impressive than the miracle of Christmas, and E pipes up and says "yeah, I think so too".

This cover, you know you love it.  There is also a gif of Joshua Jackson during the photo shoot when he briefly rested his head on Katie Holmes' shoulder and looked so comfortable.  I know they aren't all really best friends like I think they should be, but I loved that little moment.

Look how cute...

I saw this on Instagram the other day and it definitely hit home, I totally did this.  I also used to melt cheese in teh microwave in a little bowl and eat it by itself.  Simpler times.

The Blue Jays are back today for the season opener at home versus the Yankees.   Excited to see the boys of summer back on the field.

If you missed Wednesday's post, check it out to see what we have been up to lately.

What's up Wednesday

What we're eating this week...
Sunday - Salad with tahini lemon dressing
Monday - Pork chops, brussels sprouts, potatoes
Tuesday - Butter Chicken
Wednesday - Macaroni and Cheese (by request)
Thursday - Frittata and Salad
Friday - Fish and Chips
Saturday - Lamb Burgers and Greek Salad

What I'm reminiscing about...
The Masters is next weekend so I always think about our friend Brad and now my Uncle Robert, both of whom aren't around anymore.  Dave and Brad would always exchange a few text messages during this weekend, and Robert and I would message each other about whoever was doing well, last year it was Freddie Couples.

What I'm loving...
Canadian music lately.  We really have quality stuff up here.  The Junos were on Sunday but I just watched them now. So impressed with the new artists and some memories of my childhood (Barenaked Ladies, an impromptu performance of Northern Touch).

What we've been up to...
Playing some hockey in the basement.  Q loves going down there and carrying the hockey sticks and balls around, playing basketball, or throwing the bouncy balls.

What I'm dreading...
Soccer/T-ball season.  I mean, it will be great fun for E but it means lots of juggling pick ups and dinnertimes for us.

What I'm working on...
Dave and I are working with E on his reading and spelling.  He has a spelling test on most Thursdays so we practice the words all week long.  We are using the Razz Kids app for reading.  It has a cost but we are splitting it with a friend.  It has a lot of the levelled reading books in English and French.  He needs more practice on the reading, but this app is helping.

What I'm excited about...
We got our taxes done this week, so the refund will be exciting when it comes in!

What I'm watching/reading...
We are watching Fargo, Season 2, Wild Wild Country, Workin' Moms, and This Week Tonight.

I have a book on the go, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, but it hasn't really caught my attention yet.  I'm still waiting for one of my library holds to come in, but that may take awhile so I'll try to find something else soon.

What I'm listening to...
Michael Jackson on Spotify.  E's music teacher has played some MJ songs for them and he loves it.  We heard "ABC" the other day, and E says, all serious, "this is when he sang with his brothers".    Inspired by this MJ love, we have also been listening to some Bruno Mars.

What I'm wearing...
I think I can safely get my spring coat and shoes out, and maybe (?) put the winter coats and boots away.  I always love cleaning out the front closet and bringing down the flip flops and baseball caps.

What I'm doing this weekend...
All of the Easter things.

What I'm looking forward to next month...
Hopefully some warmer weather, getting the bikes out, starting to run again, and some Blue Jays games.

What else is new...
Q has moved to the Toddler Room at the daycare now.  He transitioned with no issues, just like his brother before him.

What is your favourite Easter tradition?
I have always enjoyed the egg hunt on Easter morning.  Even the parents can get in on the fun when the eggs are hidden in their shoes or by the coffee maker.  And then you get to bring a few with you to church in your pocket.

Weekend Recap

You can tell that Spring is slowly making its way here.  We had blue skies and slightly warmer weather on the weekend.  On Friday I pciked up Q first so he could spend some time playing at the schoolyard when we picked up E.  He chased this basketball around for a little bit.

On Friday night we watched the Raptors game and some Netflix.  On Saturday morning I was up early to go to my workout at 7:30.  When I got back, E and I went on a walk to find an Easter tree.

I love having bits of nature to explore even in the middle of a big city.  In case you're wondering, both of his feet got muddy and wet after playing in this puddle, which is why he wore his old sneakers.

When we got back Q was up from his nap so we played in the backyard while I cleaned up the leaves and Dave tidied the garage.

Mats only at this driving range, haha.

After lunch and during nap time, I put up our Easter decorations. See them all here.

Then we met our neighbours and went on a little adventure.  In this unassuming strip on Geary Avenue are a couple of very neat spots.

First stop was Parallel where they make their own tahini and serve some very delicious Middle Eastern snacks.  This warrants a repeat visit for brunch sometime!

They were all out of hummus (very busy that day) so we got the goat cheese dip and falafel.

Then we went down a few doors to The Greater Good, a bar with about 16 craft beers on tap, an in house pizzeria (North of Brooklyn Pizzeria), and free arcade games upstairs (caveat, the Skeeball and Pinball cost $1 and $2 respectively). When we arrived our group was the only one with kids so we had the run of the place.  We got some pizza for everyone and then it started filling up fast with  families.  The crowd just made it more fun since our kids weren't the only crazy people in the place ;)

My turn at Pinball!

Q chowed down on my his pizza.

The train tracks ran right behind the restaurant so Q watched from the window.

We popped into Blood Brothers Brewing to pick up some bottles to bring home.  This was just down the street and some of the ones we tried at The Greater Good.

A little dabbing outside.

Everyone was pretty happy even though it was time to leave so it was a successful afternoon.

On Sunday E was living his best life wearing only underwear and snuggled in the blankets.  Q had gone down for a nap and Dave went for a run, so I napped for 45 minutes before it was time to go to church.

At church E was lighting the candle and leading the liturgy all by himself.  He needed a little prompting but he did well to stand up there and speak into the microphone.

He also sang with the junior choir, so it was a busy morning for him!

After lunch I picked up some groceries and then we played outside and walked to the park.

We kept up our habit of eating salad on Sunday nights.  This time I used some of the tahini we got at Parallel the day before and made a lemon tahini dressing for this salad.  Delicious!

A shared popsicle before bed.

My favourite kind of weekend!
