Friday Favourites

Hope you survived Halloween!!

We carved our pumpkins on Wednesday night.

This is Dog Man. I didn't have a stencil so I had to draw my own, what do you think?

Q loved it!

I also did this golf ball.  I figured it was fitting for our family.

This is E's pumpkin, he wanted a big one eating a little one.

I was supposed to my own pumpkin but when I went to carve it, it was already rotted out on one side, and I didn't have time to go and get another one.  I put it outside and almost immediately a squirrel was eating away at it.

If you're not familiar, we have big squirrels in Southern Ontario.

The kids dressed up for school.  E was one of the Men in Black, along with his group of friends.

And Q was Darth Vader.

The school has a costume parade for JK to Grade 3, so we went up to see it. I love seeing what other people come up with for costumes.

Obligatory front step photo before trick or treating started.

Two of E's friends came down to get him and then I drove them up to meet the rest of their crew.

Looking sharp!

Now onto the rest of the happenings from this week...

I promptly dribbled coffee down my front when arriving at work the other day.  So I attempted to rinse it out in the bathroom.  No one really noticed me while it was drying, so that's good!

Q had some school work to do this week and I suggested he use the desk in his room.

I achieved my goal of working out everyday in September and October. *Applause*

We're off to New York this morning, can't wait to be in that city!!

Linking up with Andrea and Erika.

Halloween Recap

Halloween is always a fun time.

We carved our pumpkins last Monday night.  I just got two this year and decided not to do any stencils. Instead the kids designed their own.  E carved his own, and I carved Q's design.

This was Q's design - toothy face, with bats to the upper left, and two grave stones with scary faces to the right.

Did I do okay?!

This was E's design with some great big eyes.

E was a lumberjack, but then decided to add some "blood" to his ax.

Bo Bichette, Q's favourite Blue Jay.

Ready for school.

For many years, I have made baked chicken tacos as our Halloween traditional meal, but without our oven I had to pivot to pasta and meatballs.  E actually ate at a friend's house and then came home with that friend and another one to trick or treat with Q.

A few of the neighbour boys and guests.

Our kids did our street together, then E took off with his friends while Dave and Q continued around our neighbourhood.

Because we are in the basement, I put the pumpkins on the driveway, lights on our dumpster to indicate we were still giving out candy, and put a sign on the front steps that said "Come to the side door...if you dare". I'm sure a few people skipped our house but we got about 35 trick or treaters, which is similar to last year.

When the kids got home, we sorted through their candy, watched a bit of Ghostbusters and tried not to stay up too late!

Weekend Recap

I don't have any many pictures from this weekend.  It was pretty ordinary, which is just fine, we needed that.

On Friday night E was invited out with the friend that we took out last weekend. They went to the same sushi place. The rest of us had hamburgers.  After supper Q and I went for a walk around the block to see the Halloween decorations.

Keeping with the theme, we watched the Haunted Mansion house on Disney+.  It was really good! And now maybe we can go on that ride next week, no one wanted to go on it with me last time.

On Saturday morning I went for a run by the river, it was so nice, not too cold, but very pleasant.  I took the kids to swimming, while Dave went to the mall to buy some new shorts for our trip.  The kids played with our neighbour for a bit and I walked up to get my nails done.  I chose red for Mickey :)

Dave was cooking our ribs for supper.  Even though our kitchen is mostly unusable, we were able to use the oven to cook these.  And then finished them off on the BBQ.

After supper we watched the Leafs game and the Great British Baking Show.

Dave and E went for a run on Sunday morning (E's next race is today), and then we went to church.

Dave left for the airport mid-afternoon (he will be in Florida for a conference and then we join him on Thursday night).
E went golfing, toque required!

Q lazed around watching TV (although he had played outside earlier), and I did a 45 minute Peloton ride.

After we picked up E from the golf course, we went to Queen Margherita Pizza.  We haven't been there for awhile, they had a new menu so I tried a new pizza.  The boys stuck with their usual.  My pizza was good but I like my standard order better!!

Home after that and got ready for the week.

Weekend (and Halloween) Recap

We had a busy weekend, but lots of fun.  On Friday afternoon we went up to the ski show to get some new gear for the kids.  We only found something for Q as E needs race skis and the selection for that wasn't that good.  And Dave got a new golf club! I know, what were the golf people doing at the ski show? Same consumer base I guess.

It had been PJ day for Q's class, hence his outfit.

Then I went downtown and met some friends for dinner at Selva.  It was kind of like Rainforest Cafe in there.

The food was good but it wasn't really our scene so we went to the lobby bar at the Fairmont Royal York.  I love this place, it's so comfortable and classy and great for people watching.

How pretty is this martini?

And we talked one of our law school classmates who was also in town to join us.  It was fun to reminiscence!

It was a late night so I was slow to get moving the next day!! Dave was golfing at the Pumpkin Scramble.

I tidied the house and took Q to swimming.  Then we picked out our pumpkins and got ready to host our friends for supper.  We made pizzas and everyone got to help.  Of course I only remembered to take one photo!

On Sunday we went to church. I worked on some reading with Q in the afternoon while Dave took E out to get his ski gear.

The boys got suited up to make sure they are set for the ski season.

We worked on our pumpkins after that.

The kids were ready for Halloween on Monday.  They get to wear their costumes to school.

I drove E and B to school that day since it was raining and I didn't want their costumes to get wet.  E is Legolas from Lord of the Rings.

I also went to the school to catch the costume parade for grades K to 3. I wasn't sure I had time but I'm glad I fit it in as Q was happy to see me.

Ready for trick or treating.

Q had a great haul of candy. E went around the neighbourhood but then went up near the school with his friends.  He was out a bit later but managed to get less candy. He did score a full size Mint Aero that  I am trying to get off him!

I'll be back on Friday to share some favourites from the week.
