Friday Favourites

Happy Friday! We get a long weekend :)

Q made this pumpkin pie at the YMCA this week.  E said that pumpkin pie doesn't usually have a top, but I said the lattice work was just fine ;)

It was wine exchange day at my office earlier this week and my colleagues exceeded the budget, lucky me!  We will try these out on the weekend.

I had dinner at The Carbon Bar this week.  I didn't realize it was the place where they used to record The Electric Circus on Much Music (Canadian '90s kids, you know what I mean!).  It's a cool spot and the food is delicious.

This once little guy had to go to the changing room at swimming lessons all by himself this week and get ready on his own. The last time we had swimming lessons at this location, he had lessons at the same time as E and they could go through together.  There isn't really a family/unisex washroom here so I sent him in alone and he did just fine. I could tell he was proud of himself.  There is a kid from school that he knows so I said if he needed anything to ask that kid's dad/grandpa.

Big independent kid!

I made overnight oats on Wednesday night to enjoy on Thursday.  I never really liked overnight oats but then I realized that I could warm them up, so I did and liked it much better.  This was a recipe from the Oh She Glows Everyday cookbook.

Friday Favourites

Happy Friday! My work had a few IT issues this week which left me patching together different sources to retrieve my emails and documents, it's getting figured out, but it was a stressful week! And now I have the new Outlook and the new Teams, and I do not like it!! Haha.  I resist change.

We are getting ready for the partial eclipse that is happening on Monday here.  I realize that many of you are not in the direct path like we are in Southern Ontario, but we are excited about it! The kids will be home from school and we have a couple of pairs of glasses to check it out.

Was anyone fooled by anything on April Fool's Day?  I think it was pretty tame this year, people realize that we are all dealing with A LOT and don't have the bandwidth for much more foolishness.  However I did fall for Peloton's post that said they were going to start Breakdancing Classes.

I was happy to see King Charles looking well at church on Easter Sunday. Wishing him all the best as he continues with his cancer treatments.

I volunteered at the school's monthly Pizza Day this week.  I tried to snap a photo with E, but he was at peak Grade 7 and hid from the lens.  He was happy to see me and so was Q until he rushed off to Rubik's Cube club.

Does anyone else store their pie in the cupboard with the plates?  I don't know if this is a Nova Scotia thing or what, but it's what we did when I was growing up.   The pie didn't last long - two pieces for each of us, but we all enjoyed it! It's my favourite pie.

I had some random ingredients in the fridge to use up and so I had to be a bit creative.  I made this peas on toast meal for my lunches to use up the mint we had.  I also made a smoked salmon pasta to use up some dill.

Something that was not a favourite was the black jelly beans and they remained in the bowl while the rest were picked out.  I don't mind a black jelly bean but I didn't want to eat them either so they ended up in the bin! (And the few purple ones that are there were snatched up first)

If you blog, please link up with us on Monday for Sharing Our Lives.  We are going to talk about our favourite hair and makeup products.  Rest assured, my hair and makeup routine is not extensive so don't feel like you will be left out of you don't have drawers and cupboard full of products to share.  Many of the things I do use are from recommendations from friends and bloggers so I will enjoy seeing what else is out there.

Have a great weekend! I think this is our last week of colder weather and the temperatures look like they about to take a turn next week.  And we will hope for clear skis on Monday afternoon for the eclipse!

Weekend Recap

I hope you had a nice weekend, and if you were celebrating Easter, a Happy Easter! Easter is my favourite holiday, I like it more than Christmas.  It has peak religious significance, the weather is usually starting to warm up, and it requires a lot less preparation and work!

I arrived home from Lima late on Thursday night (or early Friday morning) so I decided not to attend the Good Friday service at our church.  I did watch on our YouTube channel and enjoyed the music and message.  But it was a nice slow morning, did some colouring (with Q), and watched the curling.   Dave's parents had arrived earlier in the week from being away for the winter.  The kids made the annual Easter cake with them.

Since E took the photos of the cake, there is a selfie to accompany them!

We had fish and chips for supper.  We ordered take out from the golf club and they were so delicious.

I picked up a few treats from Peru to bring home.  I went to the grocery store with a colleague who is originally from Peru and now lives in Chile, so she was telling me what the "must haves" were for home.

On Saturday morning I got up to do a workout and then helped Dave make waffles.  Dave's parents left to go home, and I walked up the street with the kids for an Easter scavenger hunt.  Friends of ours joined us up there.  It was a beautiful day.

We had our Easter dinner on Saturday night, we made ribs, coleslaw, and roasted potatoes.  I failed to take a photo of us at the table, so I took one of our leftovers instead!  The ribs were a bit more well done than we like, they were fall of the bone so much that we needed to use a knife and fork to eat them.  But the flavour was so good.

After dinner we took the remote control car out for a spin.

On Sunday the boys came to wake us up at 7:00, very excited to find the hidden eggs .(Yes, they are both wearing Christmas pjs.)

The Easter Bunny was here!  Although I contributed with a chocolate egg from Peru and a book.

Mom and Dad got some treats too :)

We wisely made extra waffles the day before so it was an easy breakfast on Easter morning.  We ate these while watching Peter Rabbit.

We all went to church and then to the golf club for Easter brunch.

No pictures of me at the club so I made sure we got one when we got home.

Some of us had a post-brunch nap and I finished my book.  While I was making a pie Dave took the boys up to the park for some baseball practice.  When the pie was out of the oven I walked up meet them.

Et voila, the pie!

We started the new Hunger Games movie, and when E went to bed, Dave and I finished Fargo.  The kids didn't have any school on Monday but Dave and I were working.  I did take the kids up to the park to play soccer base (or kickball as they like to call it) but mostly they watched Marvel movies and played with toys - the best way to spend a day off.

Friday Favourites

It was the first official week of summer this week - E is at sleep away camp and Q was at a multi-sport camp with two of his friends from school.  We get to see some photos of E and he looks like he's having a good time.

The new Sephora opened at Union Station and I stopped in on Monday.  I picked up a new lip pencil from Nars and some face stuff.  I already had the cleanser and scrub but thought I would try out the Vitamin C serum and eye cream.

In this week's edition of the Union Summer Market, I went over on Tuesday with some people from work.  It was raining but we sat under cover and had a nice lunch.  Sadly the salsa music with dancers had to be postponed due to the rain, but hopefully we can catch them again another time.

When I picked up Q from his camp on Wednesday we stopped in at the Annette Village Farmer's Market to see what we could find.  We got some lemonades, pao de queijo (Brazilian cheese buns), butter tarts, and strawberries.  Q was also very interested in the bee hive at the honey stand.

I turned one of the containers of strawberries into this pie.

My building has some outdoor seating that I kind of forgot about but I decided to take my lunch up there on Thursday.  Lots of shade and not that many people.  I will go again.

We decided not to go to t-ball on Thursday and it was nice to have nothing to do. Dave was meeting colleagues for drinks downtown so Q and I sat outside after work - he watched Netflix on the iPad and made paper airplanes, and I read my book.  Then we ordered McDonalds on Uber Eats.  Perfection!

If you have a blog, please link up with us on Monday. We are going to be writing about Family Food Traditions.
