Friday Favourites

Saint Patrick's Day was a bit tamer than in years past.  With it falling on a Monday, the best I could do was a Guinness between work and dinner.  It was delicious.

E completed his Bronze Medallion for swimming and his First Aid certificate on Monday.  Well done! He is registered to do the Bronze Cross course with his friends starting in a couple of weeks.

Some signs of spring outside of our house.

Q and his stuffies, ready for bed.

E got his grad photos back this week. He looks good!

We celebrated Dave's birthday yesterday.  We went out for dinner at Patois, a Jamaican Chinese fusion restaurant.  Then home for gifts and ice cream cake.  A successful birthday all around.

Linking up with Andrea and Erika.

Happy Birthday Dave!

Happy Birthday to Dave today!! He had a great past year, going on several golf trips, including to Scotland. He resumed the title of t-ball coach for Q's team which led to lots of fun on the ball field.

Dave is now the "old guy" at his work, in his 40s with a teenager, trying to keep up with what "the kids" are saying, but inspiring confidence as a seasoned leader to his team.

I credit him with a lot of positives in our life, as he strives for excellence.  He is not one to sit around and put off stuff that needs to be done.  He likes to be active but also enjoys relaxing with a good show, playing video games with the kids, and a scotch.

Cheers to 44!!

A few photos of Dave's year.

Weekend Recap

Friday was a busy day for me at work, I was in the office and although I planned to leave a little earlier, I did not get to.  But I was still able to make our chili for supper and get a Peloton ride in.  We kicked off E’s birthday weekend with some special cookies from Craig’s Cookies.  Then we watched Goosebumps.

The next morning we got ready for E’s birthday party by putting together the treat bags and picking up the birthday cake.  E’s friends arrived around 2:30.  They quickly got into some games before it was time to leave for the party.

We went to an Escape Room.  The boys had done this for another birthday party and E wanted to do it too, choosing a new room. Q was excited to hang with the big boys.

While they were doing that, Dave and I walked down the street to check out Skiis and Biikes, and Home Run Sports.  It took the boys about 45 minutes or so to get through the room.

Then we took everyone back to our house where the kids watched a movie, played mini-basketball in the basement, played a few video games, and had pizza and cake.  (And the vegetables I put out! Miracles do happen!!).  Parties for 13 year old boys are definitely more chill than parties for younger kids!

Ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins

Our teenager :)

The treat bags were just candy which the kids loved.

Opening up the gifts from his friends.  He has some really thoughtful buddies.

The boys were tired the next morning but I still dragged them to church with me.  It was a beautiful day

After church and Dave’s golf, we set out on our bikes to enjoy one of E’s birthday gifts, an upgrade to the geocaching app he uses.

Heading into the woods.

However the advanced version of app shows caches that are way harder to find and we weren’t as successful as we would have liked.  But we were still outside and that’s all that matters.

Then we went out for E’s birthday dinner.  Although his birthday was not until Monday, he wanted to go for sushi and that restaurant is closed on Mondays.

Walking up.

Excited!

He opened his gifts that night too.

New guitar.  The one he was using was borrowed so we thought he should have his own.

We watched the F1 race and then went to bed early.

Happy 13th Birthday E!

And just like that we have a teenager!  E is 13 today.  We are so fortunate that he is such an easy going kid, especially as he gets older and has more things going on his life.  He golfed a lot this summer and played house league baseball, he's enjoying his guitar lessons, and will of course be back to skiing this winter.  He is pretty well rounded and although we would love if he spent less time playing video games and more time playing outside, I think that's pretty par for the course. It will be different when he goes to high school next year and he may have a rude awakening when it comes to schoolwork, but for now he seems to be doing just fine. His friends all wrote nice messages to him in his birthday cards and it gives me hope that the kids are alright.  He is a good friend and gets along well with most people.  He's also a great older brother to Q, who can be that typical little brother.

Cheers to 13!!

I asked E if he was too old for the birthday quiz but he was happy to oblige.
