Friday Favourites

On Monday I shared some of my favourite things about the Winter Olympics so far.  Here are a few more:

Eric Radford (and Meagan Duhamel).  Eric is the first openly gay athlete to win a skating medal.  This is a big deal.  I know I can get complacent about the LGBT community and think "of course they can do whatever they want now, we've come so far", and yes, we have come a long way, but it is a big deal that other LGBT kids (and adults) can see Eric up there getting his medal, being himself.  We need role models of all sorts and he really fought to be where he is now.  Well done Eric!
(Eric and Adam Rippon, the gay US skater who got into with Mike Pence on Twitter)

Canada House is also doubling as Pride House (because Olympic organizers couldn't get enough funds together for a separate location).  All LGBT athletes are welcome there.  When you consider that being gay and promoting the "gay agenda" is illegal in Russia, where the last Winter Olympics were held, then it is pretty awesome that we can create this safe space at Canada House.

The amount of time we spend talking about Tessa and Scott.  Every time we see them compete or do anything, we spend an inordinate amount of time talking about how they aren't a couple.  Everyone has their own theory about what is "really" going on with them.  I mean, they have chemistry, the seem to be actually friends, they should just get married, it would make everyone so happy.

Mr. T loves curling.  He started tweeting about the mixed doubles this week and even gave a shout out to our Canadians.

And Yun Sung-Bin from South Korea.

Have a great weekend, you'll know here to find me!

Valentine's Day

With Valentine's Day falling in the middle of the week we didn't have any big plans, but we did do some special things with the kids and lots of love was shared.

These were E's Valentine's cards for his classmates and other friends.  They were hologram Star Wars with three different images as you turned them back and forth.  For the first two years of school it was a challenge to get him to write out his cards, but this year he was very excited to do it and completed them weeks in advance.

A few special gifts ready for my boys.

We read some stories of love throughout the week.

Q opening his present and looking at his card

E was excited about his card too. They both got new outfits to wear on the day.  E was like "we need to go downstairs and see what the bunny left", so I had to remind him the bunny is for Easter and Valentine's Day is just what he gets from us.  I think the foiled heart candies threw him off.

A special treat for school - chocolate cake with heart sprinkles

Here they are in their new outfits.  I ordered it all from Old Navy on Friday and it all showed up on Monday at my office, so much for 7-9 days for shipping!

When I got home I founds some flowers and a cake

We had a nice dinner of pasta with chicken and garlic bread and a nice bottle of wine.   I actually forgot to get a photo of Dave and me before we changed into our comfy clothes and I had a shower (although that would be a real life photo) so here is a photo of us from new years

Hope your day was full of love as well.

How We Wednesday...

This month's topic is How we take care of ourselves.  I actually wrote about this for a previous link up here.  Basically I try to get enough sleep, take snuggles when I can get them, use nice face cream, make good food, and take fitness classes where savasana is mandatory.

Weekend Recap

On Friday we got a pile of snow, so the boys were out shovelling when I got home from work.

Then we went inside and ate the meatball subs that Dave had made for us and loaded up the Olympics.

On Saturday morning Dave and E took off for skiing.  I was in charge of signing up for t-ball so we skipped swimming lessons so I could be in front of the computer when sign up began.   Q and I hung out on the couch for a bit.

Yummy bagel with avocado.

After Q's nap we went to Costco to get gas and a few things.

Meanwhile Dave and E had a great day up on the slopes.

We had some friends over for supper so I made this fish dish.  It is so easy but tasty - haddock fillets with spinach and buttered bread crumbs.  We also had potatoes, green beans, and chocolate cake.

Our Sunday morning started out pretty normally, with pancakes, and some goofiness.

But then poor Q fell on a toy and cut his lip and gums.  Mouth cuts bleed a lot, but it stopped fairly quickly and he calmed down.  He was in better spirits after a nap and did well eating.  We are getting him checked by a dentist today but there is likely nothing much they can do, just check to make sure there was no major damage.

E and I still went to church and E sang in the choir.  In the afternoon Dave took E to the pool for a free swim.  We were all supposed to go together but decided Q didn't need anymore excitement.  We made some burgers for supper and watched a lot more of the Olympics.

Winter Olympics Favourites

A few of my favourite things from this year's Olympics:

Mixed Curling - We are curling fans around here but the mixed curling event was new to us.  We love John Morris and Kaitlyn Lawes so were excited to see they were our team for this event.  I love the speed and the rocks in play for the mixed curling event.  We will be up early tomorrow morning for the gold medal game!

Skating Scoring - I love seeing how they skaters are doing during the skate.  I mean, I'm still nervous and I hide behind my blanket when our Canadians go for a big jump, but to know how they are doing overall helps a bit.
Mark McMorris - Did you see the CBC Documentary about him last week?  I already was a fan, but I am in awe of the work that he has put in over the past 11 months to not only get back on his feet, but onto the podium as well!  He's amazing.

Instagram Stories - I love being "with" the athlete and journalists at the Games through their Instagram stories.   Behind the scenes at the Olympics is one of my favourite things.

Canadian Tire Commercials - I'm not crying, you're crying.  I love the focus on the Paralympics.

Gangnam Style - Anyone remember how to do this dance?! You knew this song had to make an appearance at the opening ceremonies and I was happy to hear it.

And we've only had a couple of days of competition, more favourites to come!

Friday Favourites

Have you heard about the Atlanta Monster podcast yet?  Dave told me about it last week and I've listened to the five episodes that are out so far.  It is kind of like Serial (although not as good), and it has all of my favourite things - true crime, race relations, and southern accents.  In the late 1970s to early 1980s several young black boys in Atlanta were abducted and murdered and this is about how the police solved the case and then others' views about how they didn't solve it at all.

We had a colourful meal on Wednesday - homemade chicken strips, roasted sweet potatoes, and purple cabbage coleslaw.  Q wasn't a big fan of the coleslaw but he ate the rest.

On Tuesday at work, a few of us ordered burgers and fries from Burger's Priest and they were so good.  I went to the original Burger's Priest a few years ago, and since it became a mainstream franchise, it didn't appeal to me as much (#soldouttotheman) but I think I'll consider going back when we want burgers again.

Short and sweet today, bring on the weekend and the Olympics!
