Weekend Recap

Dave was away this weekend enjoying some golf and sunshine in Arizona.  On Friday afternoon we played outside for a few minutes before going inside.  Q loves being outside and hates being dragged away when it is time to go somewhere.  It will be great when it is warmer and we can spend even more time outside.

I got everything ready for skiing and then watched most of Phantom Thread, but decided it was wiser to go to bed early than watch the whole thing.

I was up early to make sure everything was set up before 7:00 so I could register for Toronto rec programs.  It sometimes can take up to 45 minutes to get logged in, but this time I was successful in about 5 minutes and got the two camps and one swimming session I wanted for E.

Because we had some extra time we could watch a couple of shows before hitting the road.

We met our friends up on the hill and they took E for a couple of runs before the races started.  Q kept himself entertained walking back and forth on the bench, drinking water, and eating snacks.

Then we suited up and walked over to the base of the race course.

Here comes E!  Tucking to the bottom.

While we waited for the next run, this little guy couldn't stay awake and fell asleep in my arms.

I actually laid him down for a little bit and he did not wake up.  I only left him there for a little while and then held him again.

E's race group

After the races, Q and I had lunch while E waited for the podium awards.  Then I put Q up in the daycare (where he only cried for a few minutes) and went back to pick up E.  We had lunch and then went skiing for the afternoon.  It was my first time up on the hill this year and we had a good time!

I even managed a few jumps in the terrain park!

Hopped in the car and had the make the mandatory stop at Tim Hortons.

Everyone was tired when we got home, but E and I did sneak in some ice cream eaten directly out of the container and some episodes of Cake Wars.

On Saturday night I finished Phantom Thread and watched a little bit of The Shape of Water.

On Sunday morning E sang with the junior choir at church.

After we got home and had lunch, Q went down for his nap and then E and I cleaned the bathroom and our bedrooms.

We then went to Costco because we needed gas but E also requested we go inside for the samples. We did pick up a few things.
Monkeys on the cart.

When we got home, E worked on his workbook.

And Q stood at the counter and took these snack bars we got at Costco in and out of the box about 10 times.

Dave got home around 8:00 and we watched the Oscars with a big bowl of popcorn.  I did not participate in a pool this year but I still filled out a ballot.  I got 16 out of 24 right, which is usually what I predict.  Happy for Sam Rockwell and Gary Oldman.  I had picked Three Billboards for Best Picture, but what I've seen of The Shape of Water so far, I like.

Beauty Link Up

I had to laugh at a few of these because I am not someone who is very interested in beauty products, but here we go.

1. Eyelash Curler Yes or No?
No.  I used to have one but it eventually broke and I gave up.

2. Favourite Nail Shade?
I always go toward blue or dark purple.  I remember in high school when blue and green were released as nail polish colours and it seemed so edgy.

3. Favourite Lipstick Shade?
I don't wear lipstick ever, only whatever gloss I have laying around.  My very favourite splurge is Fresh Sugar in Rose.

4. Blow Dry or Air Dry your hair?
Lately I have been in the habit of showering at night and letting it air dry, but I have always blow dried my hair.

5. Artificial Nails Yes or No?
No.

6. Foundation Yes or No?
Yes, well I have a tinted moisturizer but I consider that a foundation.

7. Hair Up or Hair Down?
Hair down most days to start, but it often ends up in a ponytail by the end of the day.

8. Bar Soap or Body Wash?
Bar soap for my face, body wash for the shower.  I'm currently using this one.

9. Bath or shower?
Shower.  I think I can count on one hand the number of baths I have had over the past 10 years.

10. Favourite Body Lotion?
I don't really have one that I use on a regular basis (#fail), but I still have a bottle of body lotion from Arbonne, and I like it.

11. Do you wear perfume? If so, favourite scent?
Everywhere is scent free but I occasionally spray on some Sarah Jessica Parker Beauty.  I used to have the lotion and I really liked that too because it would last longer.

12. Do you shave your legs everyday?
No.  The hair on my legs is pretty blonde so I am able to let it go for a few days (maybe longer in the winter).

13. Favourite lip balm?
See question 3 above.

14. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
I was thinking of this the other day, does anyone remember those tubes of sparkles that we used to put on our eyelids?  I remember having that in high school and that was the extent of my makeup for awhile.  I don't remember when I graduated to actual make up, but it was not until university that's for sure.

Friday Favourites

We ordered some new shoes for E since he burns through shoes like crazy.  Yes, they look huge because they are!

I love making a secondary bouquet of flowers out of a bigger bouquet.  My Valentine's Day bouquets got reused to make this one.

I love this meme.  I am definitely that person now. #loblaws

I read on Twitter this week that Frozen 2 is in the works and they may create a girlfriend for Elsa, which I think it amazing.  Like I said when I talked about skater Eric Radford, it is so important to showcase the LGBT community in mainstream media.

E and Dave finally completed the robot that they got for Christmas.  It is a cute little thing and now only did they build it, E can learn some coding through the iPad to get him to do different moves.

One of my favourite books from a couple of years ago, Americanah, is apparently being made into a movie, and starring, among others, Lupita Nyong'o, so I'm excited about that.

Happy Friday Everyone!

New Things - Music

As part of my New Year's Resolution to try new things, I have been listening to more music at work in the afternoons.  We got a family account for Spotify for Christmas so it means I can always listen to my own playlists without having to share with Dave.  I will find an artist where I've like one or two of their songs and then I can find and listen to their entire album(s). So far I have checked out:

The Weakerthans - this is a cool curling song #Canada

Ria Mae - Halifax native, love her!

Others I like are:
Great Lake Swimmers
Hawksley Workman
Jenn Grant
Rose Cousins

You'll note a high volume of Canadian singers.  CBC Radio 2 Mornings and Drive play a good amount of Canadian content and that is where I will tune in to get away from the mainstream radio DJs and repetitive top 40 music. (By the way if you listen to any program on CBC Radio 2, if you go to their website you can find a list of every song they played under "Playlogs".)  They will play a good song by someone and I am reminded to check them out.

Another great thing about Spotify is that they suggest concerts in your area.  I went to see Lauryn Hill in September and I realized that I don't need to know and love every song of an artist to go to their concert.  It was fun to be out and watch the other concert-goers.  Even when I went to see Britney Spears in Vegas and knew every song, I loved seeing other people who know every. single. word. (and dance move).

(I sort of dissed the mainstream radio above, but I do love all of that music too.  Give me all the Drake and Taylor Swift and The Weeknd and Bruno Mars...)

What's up Wednesday

What we're eating this week...
Sunday - Shrimp noodles with carrots on the side
Monday - Broccoli, tomato, and potato frittata
Tuesday - Chicken fajitas
Wednesday - Chick pea and sweet potato curry
Thursday - Pizza Lasagna
Friday - Leftover Lasagna
Saturday - Stew

What I'm reminiscing about...
This month's Facebook memories seemed to show a lot of trips - a cruise in 2011, Boston in 2012, Mont Tremblant in 2013, Lake Placid in 2015, and Jamaica in 2017.

What I'm loving...
Chatterbox Q.  He doesn't say any real words yet, but he's still got a lot to say.

What we've been up to...
We're coming down off of our Olympic high.  We had a lot of late nights and early mornings watching the various events and now we are glad for the break!  It is hard work being an Olympic spectator.  I shared some of my favourite Olympic moments here and here.

What I'm dreading...
I would say Saturday morning because I will be solo for skiing with both kids (Dave will be away), but really I shouldn't complain.  It may be a little hectic but it will be a great day on the hill with some friends and even getting a little skiing in myself!

What I'm working on...
Watching most of the Oscar nominated movies before Sunday night.  I'm doing pretty well so far, I've seen five out of the nine Best Picture nominations, and a few in other categories.  If I was a true movie buff, I would also be making my way down to TIFF where they are showing all of the Live Action Short Film and Animated Short Film nominees.

What I'm excited about...
Spring is on its way which means so many great things - evenings at the park, bike rides, Blue Jays, and warm weather.

What I'm watching/reading...
We are watching The Walking Dead now that it is back (RIP Carl), and I recorded Caught on CBC.  I have been impressed with the CBC shows lately so I wanted to give this a try - it stars Paul Gross and Allan Hawco, who are both great actors.

I finally finished The Best Yes by Lysa Terkeurst.  This was the sort of book I was looking for, after reading this book.  It is an advice book and how to choose the "best yes" in your life, and she relates this advice to stories from her own life and the Bible.

What I'm listening to...
The cardinals are back, I can hear them in our neighbourhood trees.  Back when our yard was mostly dirt we had a lot more bird visitors eating bugs and seeds, but when we cleared out some brush and did the renovations, it seemed like they all left.  I'm happy to hear them and hopefully they will settle in our yard again.  I also heard a woodpecker this week.

What I'm wearing...
These rubber boots. I've mentioned them several times before, but they are so great when it's too warm for winter boots and the ground is wet.  I have Hunter boots too but the short boot is handy for quick errands.

What I'm doing this weekend...
Signing up for Toronto Rec programs (wish me luck!), watching E's last ski race of the season, going to church where he is singing with the choir, and watching the Oscars.

What I'm looking forward to next month...
March Break (although we aren't doing a trip, I am going to take E to my office one day and then we are going to a hockey game and if there is still snow Dave will take him skiing one day), St. Patrick's Day, Dave's Birthday, and getting ready for Easter.

What else is new...
E has some new shoes (not pictured below) and a new spring coat.

What is your family's favourite spring break destination...
We don't usually go away for March Break but I do like to do something winter related because it is one last hurrah for skiing before winter is over.  I'm imagining someday when both boys are older we can hit up Mt. Tremblant or Whistler for some March skiing.

Weekend Recap

On Friday night, Dave went to the Raptors game, so the boys and I had pizza for supper and then chilled out on the couch before bedtime. I love the way that Q crosses his feet when he's sitting here. We also made some chocolate chip cookies that we could all enjoy, and I packed up Dave and E's lunch for skiing.  After they went to bed, I watched the Bobsled and Big Air finals and went to bed early myself.

We were a little slow getting going for swimming, but we were only a little late. This blurry photo was taken when we were leaving to go home.

While Q napped, I tidied up the house and watched an episode of Queer Eye.  Then we went to the grocery store and the library.

Leftover pasta and pizza for lunch.

Q napped again and I put all of the groceries away and tidied up again before a friend came over to visit with her little guy.  He was born a couple of weeks before Q and we hung out a number of times during our mat leaves.

I made a chicken curry with apples and raisins in it for supper, it was simple but tasty and everyone enjoyed it.  Dave and I watched the Olympic skating gala and then Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing Missouri.  It was a great movie and I think Sam Rockwell will win an Oscar for his performance, he was amazing.

On Sunday morning I asked E for a photo or two since I had none of him from the day before.  This is what I got:

We skipped church because E had a friend's birthday party to attend.  Dave went for a run and to the driving range.  Q and I went to Wal-Mart and donated baby clothes to a thrift shop supported by our church.

After some quiet time on the couch, we headed outside to enjoy the sunshine and warmer temperatures.

Shrimp noodles and ice cream sandwiches for dessert, a hit all around.

Some tidying up, bath time, nail clipping, and robot building before bed.

I was looking forward to an early night now that the Olympics are over, but then we remembered The Walking Dead and had to stay up to watch that.
