I am borrowing this recipe from my friend Janna's mother. She always made these cookies for us growing up and they really are the best recipe for chocolate chip cookies. We made these last night as a special mid-week treat.
1 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tsp vanilla (I had to use vanilla bean paste)
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 1/2 cups white flour
300 g package chocolate chips (I used the PC Decadent chips)
Cream together shortening and sugars until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix in well. Add soda and salt. Add whole wheat flour and mix well. Add white flour and blend ingredients together. Mix in chocolate chips. Drop by spoonfuls on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees F for 10 to 12 minutes. Makes about 3 1/2 dozen.
