Weekend Recap

We love the May long weekend!  It's such a great time of year, especially here in Southern Ontario. Dave was away this weekend in Alabama for a golf trip but the boys and I had lots of fun here.

The boys have been biking to school and they were off on Friday morning to do the same.

We had plans to bike from school to High Park for Q's soccer but with rain in the forecast we ended up just driving.

However, there was no rain and I was again reminded never to cancel plans for rain!  We were also going to get French fries at the park but the concession stands were closed, so we ended up just having popcorn and ice cream sandwiches when we got home.

We were out of the house bright and early for Q's ball hockey game.  He was playing against two our neighbours so I got to hang out with their parents.

Ready for nets!

After we got home I quickly walked up the street to get some produce and coffee beans.

Then we hopped on the subway and streetcar to go to the Blue Jays game.

Watching Danny Jansen warm up in the bullpen.

Another family we know was there so we hung out in this area with them before we all took our seats.

Beautiful day with the roof open.

This sign was on the Jumbotron and then the camera panned over me and our friends saw me :)

Q talked me (or actually E) into buying another stuffy, but he did hand over the cash for it when we got home,

Jays lost in the end.

But it was still fun!!

E and I slept in on Sunday morning but we got up in time to scramble to church.  The afternoon was spent tidying the house and groceries.

E did get out for 9 holes in the evening and we went to pick them up.

I had bought this little kit in Lima but I didn't really know what it was.  Turns out it's like a layered cookie and you pour a syrup over top and add the sprinkles.

It was okay, a little hard to cut, and sweet.

We woke up to another beautiful day on Monday so we made sure to spend most of it outside.

First stop was the Powerhouse Balzac's for a coffee and a couple of treats.

Then we went for a walk in Prospect Cemetery.  I think it's a good experience to spend time in the cemetery, which may seem weird, but we saw lots of veteran's graves from World War I and II, some babies' graves, large families, graves from 1890 when the cemetery was established, different languages, some bible verses, and there was a lot for the boys (and me) to see and appreciate.

We did a couple of grave rubbings, being very careful and respectful of course.

Then E got the idea to look for some geocaches and we found this one outside the cemetery's gates.

It was then time for lunch so we went to Tre Mari, what a gem! I had the veal sandwich, E had a panzerotti, and Q had pizza.

And gelato for dessert.

There was another geocache nearby so we walked to find it.  I could not resist taking some flower photos on the way.

This was tough, but Q spotted it.

Then we stopped to find a couple more on our way home.  We tuned into the Jays game and relaxed on the couch.

Friday Favourites

Yay! It's a long weekend here in Canada, the unofficial kick off to summer.

On Monday I got to go golfing for a ladies' day.  We were at a golf club near my house so it was very convenient.  It was supposed to rain all day but it didn't and we had blue skies.

Q started soccer this week.  This year he is on team Argentina, which meant everyone wanted to be number 10 (for Messi).  But that shirt was too big for Q so I convinced him to pick 7 for David Beckham (yes, I know he didn't play for Argentina).

Q was goalie to start out (in the orange shirt).

We had no sports on Wednesday so we biked up the street. I wanted to go to the library and grocery store so I had to bribe the kids with Yogurty's in order to get them to come with me.  It worked and we all enjoyed our treat (Dave was golfing).

We had one of our favourite meals Crunchy Mac and Cheese this week and I had E sort of do it himself, with me prompting him along the way.  He did a great job.

Dave picked up these planters last week for the front porch and they look great.  Now we just need to make sure the watering system is on so they stay healthy all season.

I listen to the podcast the Rewatchables (part of the Ringer pod family) where they talk about old movies.  This week they did Jerry Maguire so after listening and then forcing Dave to listen, we watched the movie itself.  I think it holds up pretty well for being from 1996.  Show me the money!!

We have a few fun things planned for the weekend - bike rides, Blue Jays game, golf for E, and probably an ice cream and French fries at the park :)

Linking up with Andrea and Erika.

Let's Look - Summer Closet Staples

I missed the link up for Let's Look last week but wanted to do something on it today.  This month we are looking at our Summer Closet Staples.

Most of the time you'll find me in shorts and a tank top.  I wear sneakers a lot of time since we are quite active, lots of biking and walking to get to our various activities.  When I'm running out for some errands, I wear Birkenstocks. When it's time to go to church or out for a meal, I typically throw on a dress.  I often wear a hat - a ball cap or a straw hat - since I hate having the sun on my face.  And I always have my sunglasses with me.

Here are a few of my typical looks:

And a few things I'm looking at for this year:

Sweatshorts from Aritzia, although I see they are sold out of this colour in my size.

New Birks - my leather pair and my plastic ones are in need of replacement.  Maybe I'll get a fun colour this year.

Breezy Tank from Athleta

And maybe another pair of Goodrs

Weekend Recap

I started my Friday out with a Negroni and a little snack plate. Q was at a birthday party and Dave and E were golfing.

I walked to get Q from his party and saw these beautiful lilacs in bloom. Can you smell this photo?

We were going to watch the last Harry Potter movie that night but it was too late by the time everyone got home and we ate dinner. Another time!

On Saturday morning Q had an optional Tball practice so we biked to the field for that. It was a bit cool but nice and warm in the sun. A friend of mine was there so I got to visit with her.

Then it was time for E’s baseball game so I took him to that and Dave and Q went to ball hockey.  Number 11 on deck.

We were having people over for dinner so after the sports were over we had to tidy up the house and yard.
We had a great night with our friends from the ski season!

Kids were playing games (together) in the dark in the basement.

On Mother’s Day we went to church. And then Q had Tball game.

I learned a new skill and kept the score for the game.

When we got home and finally had a few moments I opened my gifts and we enjoyed some Indian takeout for supper. And cake for dessert.

Crazy Stupid Love is on Netflix now, it's one of my favourite movies so we watched that on Sunday night after the kids went to bed.

Sharing Our Lives - Favourite and Least Favourite Foods

Hello! Thank you for joining us today.  We're here on the second Monday of each months to share our lives with you via the topics listed below.  My co-hosts are: Adrienne, Dara, Jen, and Joanne.

Today is a particularly fun topic because we get to talk about food! I am one of those people who is always thinking about their next meal ;) It's hard to narrow these down, but here are my 5 favourite foods and my 5 least favourite foods:

Favourites
1. Pizza - any kind, but a greasy pepperoni always hits the spot.
2. Turkey Dinner - Dark meat, gravy, mashed potatoes, yummy!
3. Cherry Pie - Of all pies, this is my very favourite.
4. Smoked Salmon on a Bagel - with cream cheese, capers, and dill.
5. Bacon Lettuce and Tomato Sandwich on toast with mayo - I don't have this a lot but when I do, it's a favourite.

Least Favourite
1. Out of season fruit - pale melon, mealy oranges, strawberries that are white on the inside, blech.
2. Pork chops - One time I got food poisoning because of a pork chop and I have steered clear since then.
3. Sushi - I have eaten this on occasion but it's just not for me.
4. Overnight oats - I know this is a good healthy breakfast but it's too slimy for me, if I'm having oatmeal I want the hot stuff.
5. Black Licorice - It was never a big favourite for me, but after a bad night with some Sambuca in university, I have not wanted to go near it.

A little side bar, I've never been a very picky eater, but there are a few things that I used to hate, or so I thought, but when I tried them I realized they weren't so bad and now I love them - egg salad sandwiches, pumpkin pie, rice pudding, Brussels sprouts (as long as they roasted and not boiled). So never say never to certain food!
