New Things - Music

As part of my New Year's Resolution to try new things, I have been listening to more music at work in the afternoons.  We got a family account for Spotify for Christmas so it means I can always listen to my own playlists without having to share with Dave.  I will find an artist where I've like one or two of their songs and then I can find and listen to their entire album(s). So far I have checked out:

The Weakerthans - this is a cool curling song #Canada

Ria Mae - Halifax native, love her!

Others I like are:
Great Lake Swimmers
Hawksley Workman
Jenn Grant
Rose Cousins

You'll note a high volume of Canadian singers.  CBC Radio 2 Mornings and Drive play a good amount of Canadian content and that is where I will tune in to get away from the mainstream radio DJs and repetitive top 40 music. (By the way if you listen to any program on CBC Radio 2, if you go to their website you can find a list of every song they played under "Playlogs".)  They will play a good song by someone and I am reminded to check them out.

Another great thing about Spotify is that they suggest concerts in your area.  I went to see Lauryn Hill in September and I realized that I don't need to know and love every song of an artist to go to their concert.  It was fun to be out and watch the other concert-goers.  Even when I went to see Britney Spears in Vegas and knew every song, I loved seeing other people who know every. single. word. (and dance move).

(I sort of dissed the mainstream radio above, but I do love all of that music too.  Give me all the Drake and Taylor Swift and The Weeknd and Bruno Mars...)
