Monthly Musings

1. Favourite spring fashion pieces?
I picked up a few new things at Nordstrom (before they leave Canada for good, boo hoo) and one of them is a bright skort that I can't wait to wear.

2. Favourite spring scent?
Lilacs.  I cannot resist a lilac bush when I see one and will always stop for a big sniff.

3. Go to spring meals?
Anything on the BBQ. Although our BBQ is available in the winter too, we don't usually use it until the weather starts warming up.  We like all of the traditional meats, but also like to grill peppers and asparagus.

4. Share a spring dessert recipe.
Is strawberry shortcake for spring or summer?  I saw our first boxes of Ontario strawberries at the store the other day, so I'll say it's for spring.  This isn't really a recipe, just an idea.  You can make tea biscuits or buy a premade angel food cake at the store.  If you're using tea biscuits, make sure you slice and butter the inside.  Then top with fresh sliced strawberries (mixed with a small amount of sugar and allow to sit in a bowl for a few minutes so they get runny) and real whipped cream (sorry, not the canned stuff!).  It really doesn't need much more than that.

5. Share a few spring traditions.
Going to see the cherry blossoms in High Park, finding a patio to sit on, getting an ice cream cone after supper,

6. Best spring cleaning hack?
Nothing specific for spring really, just an opportunity to exchange my winter clothes for summer clothes and get rid of things that I didn't wear all season.  This year because we are doing a renovation I will have extra motivation to get rid of things so I don't need to pack them up.

7. Will you plant a garden this year?
I'll get a few baskets for the front yard and the backsteps, and some herbs.  That's the extent of my green thumb.

8. Spring rain - love or hate?
I don't mind the rain, as long as it doesn't carry on for too many days in a row.  I love a thunderstorm too and they usually start in late May as the weather heats up.  That was one of my favourite things when I first moved to Ontario many years ago.

9. Favourite spring flower?
Magnolias. The blooms don't last for long but they are so pretty and it means spring has definitely arrived when you see them.

10. Any spring travel this year?
Yes! Dave is going to California for a work thing so I'm going to tag along.  We will spend a couple of days in Berkeley and a couple more in San Francisco.

  3. The weather is still so warm over here so I'm almost pretending that it's spring! I have never tried strawberry shortcake but it does sound delicious and perfect for warmer weather.

  4. Our family LOVES fresh strawberry shortcake but we can't go out picking strawberries until July so it's more of a summer dessert here (though with our grocery stores we can have it year round!).

  5. I said strawberry shortcake too...but I guess we eat that more in the summer. Our lilac bushes are blooming, and it smells so nice every time I go outside. I actually forget we have them until they bloom.
