Weekend Recap

If there is one thing I love about the weekend is that there is an opportunity to go out for brunch - I realize that is cliché.  This weekend we decided to go for brunch twice!

On Saturday morning we met some friends at The Drake.

It is one of our favourite spots for brunch and on Saturday we got to eat on the patio.  I love eating outside in the summer to soak up every ounce of good weather before we are banished back inside.  The food and company were great.
Dave ordered the fried chicken and waffles.

I ordered the eggs benedict (shocking!).

The Drake has a "Little Jack" option for kids under ten - eggs, bacon, toast, grapefruit wedge, and juice box, for $5.95. E ate it all, minus the grapefruit wedge (too sour).   It was gone before I remembered to get a photo.

After lunch we walked next door to the Drake General Store.   This place has so many cool things.  I got another Canada themed shirt for E.

On Sunday morning we headed farther East to Against the Grain and enjoyed another nice brunch on a patio.  We've been here a few times and have always been pleased.  It is in a building that houses a couple of radio stations, and it is near downtown and the Distillery District (I even spotted a celebrity, one of the Property Brothers. I couldn't tell if it was Drew or Jonathan though because he was wearing a hat).

Mill Street 100th Meridian

I had the turkey club, Dave had eggs benedict and E had the kids fish and chips.  All was very tasty.

Right next to the restaurant is Sugar Beach, so named because it is directly across from the Redpath sugar refinery.  There are also a bunch of fountains that E and I enjoyed running through.  Poor Dave is unable to engage in water sports while he wearing his cast.

Hope you enjoyed your weekend too!
