Friday Favourites

Linking up with AndreaErika and Narci for a Christmas themed Friday Favourites.

Favourite Christmas Hymn
I think O Come All Ye Faithful has to be my very favourite, and I love the Latin version too, not that I know how to sing it.  It is a traditional one and I always here Bing Crosby singing it.  I also really like Il Est Ne (He is Born).  It is a French carol, and also very easy to play on the piano.

Favourite Christmas Scripture Verse
Isaiah 9:6 - For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Remember this is in the Old Testament, before Jesus was born, so this was the prophecy of what was to come, and then it came true!  Plus I can't read this verse without singing it as in Handel's Messiah.

Favourite Week of Advent
The first one, Hope.  The other weeks are good too, but I always think that Hope is something that everyone can have, even if Peace, Joy, and Love seem to be lacking at the moment.  As long as you have Hope, you have everything.  Also in our church we always have communion on the first Sunday of Advent, not something we do often.

Favourite Character in the Nativity
Mary, for sure.  Yes, of course, Jesus is Jesus, he's just a little baby, he doesn't know the magnitude of his role yet, but Mary has some idea.  After all, she got pregnant by the Holy Spirit, that is pretty amazing.  I certainly identify with her as a mother and all of the worry that comes along with that, but with the added burden of King Herod wanting your son dead.

Gifts, food, decorations, and lights are great, but everything goes back to Jesus, the "reason for the season".
