Ready for Winter

We are always trying to remain healthy during the winter months but of course this year we are even more interested in doing that since any sore throat, cough, or runny nose can keep us all home and potentially mean another Covid test.  Here are some of the things we do to stay healthy:

Humidifiers - We all have humidifiers in our room and we have a hydrometer in our room (that measures humidity).  The goal is to have it above 45% humidity so we turn them on then, or if anyone is starting to get a sore throat or cough.

Vitamin D - I purchased some Vitamin D for everyone in the family, along with a multi-vitamin for the kids.  I take the kind that dissolves under your tongue, but I got gummies for everyone else.  Even in the summer we should probably be taking Vitamin D since we always wear sunscreen.

Supplies for the cars - We always get a package of cough drops (black Halls are the only good ones in my opinion), Kleenex, medicated lip gloss, and hand lotion for each car.  All of these things come in handy in the cold weather.

Coziness for home - I love a cozy sweater and blanket.  I would recommend anything from Barefoot Dreams for maximum coziness. I have a sweater, blanket, and scarf.

Hot Toddy Ingredients - Whenever I feel my throat starting to hurt at night I whip up a hot drink - ginger paste, lemon juice, honey, and whiskey. It's nice to just hold a warm drink but it tastes so yummy too.

Flu Shots - Get your flu shot if you haven't already.

Bundling up - I know that the cold itself doesn't really cause you to get sick, but my theory is that if you're already feeling a bit run down, if you're outside without being properly dressed, your defences are already down and your body can't keep up.  Then you end up getting sick. So bundle up and keep your head and neck covered.  At least our masks are useful for keeping our faces warm now!

I hope you all manage to stay relatively healthy throughout this winter.

  1. I think I'm going to add Vitamin D and a multi-vitamin to our regimen. We've never been big vitamin takers but 2020 is the year to start. Thanks for the suggestions.

    1. Except I have already forgotten to give them the vitamins at breakfast!! They are only good if I remember to dole them out!
