It may seem like we just got back to Jamaica but we headed out again to Quebec for a March Break Ski Trip last week. Two trips within a month, we were spoiled! We went with our neighbour friends who have two kids the same age as Q and E so it worked out really well. We rented a beautiful and spacious chalet, skied for five days at three different hills, and really enjoyed our first family ski trip!
To start I made this pie on the Friday we left to take with us. I always need to photograph a good looking pie!
We picked up the kids on Friday (the 11th) from school and hit the road. It was about a 6 hour trip and it was snowing for pretty much the whole drive. I was glad Dave was driving and not me!
We arrived around 10:00 pm and quickly made ourselves comfortable. The boys claimed this top bunk for their sleeping quarters.
We were all up pretty early on Saturday morning, ready to hit the slopes.
It had snowed all night and was still snowing.
The first hill we went to was Mont Sutton. It was about 30 minutes away but we chose this first because we were able to book lessons for the five year olds.
I have never skied on a hill like this before. The fresh powder and falling snow made for really interesting and challenging skiing.
These older lifts along with the trails going through the woods made me feel like I went back in time to ski in 1950s Vermont (like at the resort in White Christmas!).
We loved it!
Lunch break. We had poutine most days :)
Then some Apres with hot chocolates and beer.
These two had a great lesson and did all blue trails including the glades. We soon realized they didn't need any more lessons.
This 1664 never tasted so good!
First successful day in the books.
Enjoying some cocktails while making supper.
And some after dinner hot tubbing.
The snow ended over night on Sunday and we woke up to a beautiful sunny day. It was slightly colder than the day before but still pretty nice.
Views from the breakfast table.
We headed back to Sutton. We foolishly thought it wouldn't be that busy, not sure why we thought that, but we had to park on the side of the road and hike it to the hill. Fortunately our lift passes were already loaded from the day before so we just headed to the closest lift.
Waiting on the side of the road for everyone to get organized.
On the lift and ready to go!
These boys quickly got comfortable in the glades.
We put the five year olds in lessons again, since they were already booked, and they had a grand time again. We chickened out on trying a black diamond but still did the blue glades. They were so fun!
Fei Fei caught us coming across from our last run to meet up at the bar for Apres.
Day 2, check!
Q asked me to take a photo of this.
Brother love.
The next day was Monday and we headed to Bromont that was about five minutes away from our chalet.
A slightly bigger hill with the option of a gondola ride.
The snow was perfect and the trails were groomed so we found it a bit easier skiing than Sutton. However there were still some challenging sections and some of the grown ups were just trying to keep up with the kiddos!
We skied over the back of the mountain too.
We took a break at the restaurant at the top.
Delicious.
We had a pretty full day of skiing then went home to get cleaned up and out for dinner. We had reservations at Edgar Hyperlodge (also about 5 minutes away from our chalet) and we all enjoyed our meals. French onion soup for me and more poutine for Dave!
Check back tomorrow when I recap the rest of our trip.
