Preparing for Advent

I don't know about you, but I feel like November flew by and I'm not sure how we are about a month away from Christmas.  I mean, I've done a few things to prepare, like plan for our Christmas party, our outside lights are out, and I've ordered our Christmas cards (and they have arrived), but I have exactly one gift purchased (and it's for Dave!!) and feel as though I have no clue about what to get most people on my list.  I am always amazed that each Christmas season feels different to me, sometimes I've got that Christmas playlist cued up to start on November 1 and other years I don't feel like celebrating at all.  Some Christmas seasons are blow outs and some are quiet and still.  I feel like this year will be wonderful but I'm just not there yet, so it may be a gradual build up.

The one constant however is always Jesus.  This is the time to prepare for his birth, advent starts next Sunday! Regardless of how you're feeling about this coming Christmas feeling, don't leave out a time to reflect on what Jesus means to you. Maybe He has never been a central feature in your celebrations, or maybe He always is.

For me, I will make an effort to not just plough ahead and spend all of the money on whatever gifts I end up buying and running from party to party (of which we actually have some this year!), I will try and calmly approach the season, appreciating the greatest gift that God is about to give us, his Son. If you celebrate Christmas, I urge you to do the same.

  1. Thank you for the reminder of "the reason for the season." I am soooo happy our labyrinth is back this year as it really helps me set the mood for the whole Christmas season.

  2. I felt the same this morning looking at the date...can it only be one month to Christmas? Thanks for the reminder of taking time to go through Advent mindfully.

  3. Yes, I find that each Christmas season feels so differently to me too! This year I am feeling pretty good gift/ card wise but plan to keep everything else very low key.

  4. Came here through the MixandMatchMama linkup! I live in Canada and always latch on to any connection to home (I'm in Nova Scotia, not Toronto, though).

This is lovely, and a great reminder about the REAL reason for the season.
