Let's Look - Unwinding During the Holidays

Linking up for the last “Let’s Look” of the year.  We looked at all kinds of things year:

January - Closets
March - Grocery Carts
August - Pantry
November - Gift Ideas for Men

For this last month, we are looking at how we unwind during the holidays. I can’t say that I really do unwind during this time it is a full court press certainly during the month of December and even before that.

And listen, I’m fine with it, I like this busy time of year, these are the days!! But when there is an opportunity to take a few minutes to rest I will take it.

Exercise - I keep working out through the holidays and although it is sort of just like another thing on the list to accomplish, taking those 20 to 30 minutes just for me is a great way to unwind.

Reading - I always find a few minutes to read by the Christmas tree as we get closer to Christmas Day. It’s even better if I have a holiday themed book.  I have one on hold at the library right now so I’m hoping it comes in.

Puzzle - It’s a family activity, but there is something calming about putting a few pieces in while drinking coffee in the morning.

Watching movies - This is pretty obvious but I love watching those same movies year after year. There is something comforting about that, waiting for your favourite part, singing along to White Christmas.

Spending time on stuff that matters -  At the start of Advent, I wrote This post about saying no to things. There are lots of things we could be doing, but that just makes more stress than we need, so we make room for the more important things that we love about Christmas. For example, we could go to a choir concert on Friday at the church, but instead we are going to do our Home Alone night (watch the movie, eat cheese pizza, and drink Pepsi).

Also the time between Christmas and New Year’s is my favourite, because everything is done, people aren’t bothering you at work, and they are days when we really don’t have to do anything. So my unwinding starts there.

  1. I've gotten pretty good at saying no to things when needed. It does help. I hope you all have a great holiday season!

  2. Yes to saying no to some things! I went back and read your post on preparing for Advent and loved it. The time when our kids are little to when they grow up goes too fast-it's good to savour every moment, even the messy ones.😊
