Show and Tell Tuesday

Linking up with Andrea for Show and Tell Tuesday today.

Today's topic is Kids' Parties.  E is five and Q is only 5 months old so I have hosted exactly five birthday parties.  There are certain things I like to incorporate into a kid's party.  They include:

Hosting the party at home. To me, it is simpler to have people come here, although I'm sure as E gets older he will want to go to the movies or other place for his birthday.

Make the cake myself.  I once looked at the cost of a custom made cake and it was not something I wanted to spend.  There are so many ideas on Pinterest, that I have been able to put something together each year.

Give out books and cookies for the treat bag.  I've both ordered custom cookies and made my own (plus sometimes they end up being good treats for the parents!), and books last a long time.  The plastic stuff that you can get at the party store might match the theme of the party, but they don't last long around here before ending up in the garbage, so I avoid buying it for other people.

Plan some games and crafts but also some free time for the kids to play together.

Make sure E passes out the treat bags and says "thank you for coming" to all of his guests.
Try not to overdo it with the number of guests.  Last year I let E invite 8 people (the number of invitations in the package), the year before it was 6 people.  In earlier years, we just invited our friends who brought along their kids, not really E's friends.

My original post about how I plan kids' parties can be found here.  That post talked about E's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd birthday parties.

My post about his 4th birthday with a balloon theme is here.

E's 5th birthday with Star Wars theme is here.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Love your idea for a treat bag. The plastic junk is not my fave either!
