Friday Favourites

Happy Friday! It was a short week for us in Canada (and if Columbus Day is a holiday then I guess a short week for the Americans).

We went on a hike last weekend and we spotted lots of interesting fungi.  I had posted this collage on my Instagram last week. Isn't nature the coolest?

We got a few new books over the past two weeks that I wanted to share with you.  The first two are Fall/Halloween themed.  They are fun with beautiful illustrations.

Amanda Gorman's children's book is finally out.  I have been waiting for this since I first heard her speak.  This is another stunning book.

My mom got this for the boys, an Indigenous story from Nova Scotia by a Mi'kmaq author.  And consistent with the previous books, wonderfully illustrated.

I wrote to Peter Mansbridge this week to ask him about the book he had recommended from his trip to the Arctic.  Not only did he email me back personally, he also read my letter on his Thursday podcast (highlight of my week!!).  So I should pass along his recommendation, it will go onto my reading list for 2022.  It is a non-fiction memoir about the Canadian government's policy of relocating Inuit families from Northern Quebec to the High Arctic as a way of establishing Canadian sovereignty over these northern lands.  Like many Indigenous history stories, I knew of this, but do not know the real extent and I look forward to reading the book.  It's called What I Remember, What I Know by Larry Auklaluk, and you can find it here.

Thanks for stopping by.  Enjoy your weekend!

  1. You captured some beautiful works of nature's art! So interesting. Thanks for sharing the book recommendation from Peter. That's great that he replied personally and read your letter on his show.
