Not Just a Mom - Busy Nights

Welcome to our Not Just a Mom Link Up Party! We are talking about how we handle busy nights. If you have a blog, make sure to link up below, and to everyone, check out the other linked posts.

I don't feel like we have had a "busy" night for about two years.  I have two children but they don't have too many activities and of course we haven't had much to do for the past little while anyway!

My ideas won't be rocket science to many people, but here they are:

Plan for an easy supper.  That means easy to prep (or even better, just heat up), and easy to eat.  Something that everyone one likes and can be eaten quickly.  This summer when we had early baseball, we also brought supper to eat the field and that worked too.

Organize as much as possible in the morning (or the night before).  Whatever the activity is, it usually requires a uniform or special materials.  To get it all packed away in a bag that can be easily grabbed means less running around before leaving.

Check to make sure there is gas in the car.  We don't typically leave the gas tank until empty, but there is nothing worse than getting in the car when the light is on and then having to drive somewhere.  We try to keep on top of that.

Communicate with other family members.  Make sure the activities, whatever they are, are in the adults' calendars, and that the kids have been briefed ahead of time about what the plan is.  When it's time to get out the door, no one should be surprised.

Work from home that day if possible.  I'm only needed to go into the office two out of five days of the week so for now, if I can organize myself to be home on those busy nights, all the better.

Thanks for checking in this mouth, be sure to come back next time when we talk about our favourite small shops.

  1. I hadn't thought about making sure there is gas in the car! We don't usually let it get that low either, but it only seems to happen on the days I don't have time to fill it up.

  3. I am horrible about waiting til the last minute to get gas, then I drive around with the light on because we are rushed. Love this tip to fill up sooner.

  4. I always have to tell my husband the kids' schedules multiple times!

  5. I was thinking the same thing-- we haven't had any busy nights for what seems like years!

  6. I like the suggestion to "work from home that day" if possible. With Dave working from home, that has definitely made our busy nights easier to handle.
